Wish they stop talking about Covid?

It's 5 years as we know since lockdown.
Talking about it on the news and radio.
Wish they wouldn't.
Will they talk about it in 5 years time because it's the tenth anniversary.
Do we need reminding?
AIBU.

Surely surely you see how daft you’re being posting this actively encouraging discussion 😂

Shegotanology · 24/03/2025 17:17

Wish they'd stop talking about Covid while starting a thread on Covid.😂
Seriously though. It's one of the biggest threats we've faced in health we've had in a long time.

Differentstarts · 24/03/2025 17:17

Oh the irony 🙄

Enjoytherush · 24/03/2025 17:17

I do wonder how some OPs get through life, I really do!

PickAChew · 24/03/2025 17:18

And yet you are here, talking about covid. Well done, OP.

MysticMel · 24/03/2025 17:18

I foresee that someone will be come on to say stop talking about the war.

ToWhitToWhoo · 24/03/2025 17:19

While I can understand not wanting to think about it/ finding it 'triggering, you can't really expect people not to mention it. Would you expect people not to refer to anniversaries of the World Wars? And there are still lessons that need to be learned from it.

So do we expect it every 5 years then, in 5 years will they be saying it's 10 years now?

People will be talking about the pandemic, its effects and lessons for years to come. It was a major world event that has had lasting impact in some areas.

Probably it was a major part of history just like the anniversary of 9/11 it always gets a mention and rightly so.

All significant anniversaries for at least the next 100 years

SometimesCalmPerson · 24/03/2025 17:28

Te effects of the forced and unnecessary lockdowns have barely been acknowledged at all. YABU

If it didn’t affect you and there are no consequences to you or your family that came from lockdowns, then you are very lucky. Not all of us are in the same position.

Roselilly36 · 24/03/2025 17:28

I don’t think it should ever be forgotten tbh, the effect it had on our lives and those of our children, never, ever again.

And next year will be 6 years. I imagine every year will have a minor nod to significant happenings, and then 10 years will be a big one. They will have anniversary "specials" on the news and documentaries galore on the aftermath and continuing effects.

It is part of the national healing process - being able to look back, reminiscing, complaining about the government.

Penko25 · 24/03/2025 17:30

It was a major world event & will be talked about for decades. Surely you realise that?

Well, we had the 80th anniversary of D-Day last year, and no doubt will commemorate the 80th anniversaries of VE-day and VJ- day this year. Or do you think we shouldn't do that either?

Longma · 25/03/2025 07:34

Of course it will be remembered on significant anniversaries - 5, 10, 20, 25, etc.
Regardless how I divides might view it, it was a major part of our history - a pandemic, almost every country in the world affected, countries locking down - some for much longer and way stricter than we ever did.

Most major events in history are remembered on significant anniversaries.

Longma · 25/03/2025 07:35

In time it may even come part of education and school learning when it comes to History and Science, and social sciences.

LollyLand · 25/03/2025 07:37

It’s over and people need to move on.
There’s always tiktoks with people comparing their life then to now. Nobody cares.

The solipsism is strong with this one.

ilovesooty · 25/03/2025 07:43

The enquiry is still ongoing so of course it will be mentioned.

TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 25/03/2025 07:46

Why?
We mark certain key dates, particularly if they've had a national impact.
Would you like 'them' to stop talking about the war or 9/11, or diana's death?

"It's over"

Tell that to my work colleagues and students who have been off with it the last few weeks.

Of course it will be mentioned every year OP. It affected the entire world and killed millions of people. It will be a historical event that generations will learn about at school in the future.

Annoyeddd · 25/03/2025 07:54

Because journalists have to find something to fill the pages with otherwise they don't get paid.

SallyWD · 25/03/2025 07:54

It's only being talked about so much because it's the five year anniversary. A time of reflection.
