Is an egg each day OK for 2 year old?

DS is a very picky eater, but loves eggs in any form. He won't eat toast or sandwiches or wraps, but will eat French toast, loves scrambled egg and beans but won't eat beans alone, will eat a bit of wrap if it has egg in it and then pick the rest of the egg out. Also likes boiled eggs.

He's having 1, occasionally 2, a day either for breakfast or lunch, and whichever meal has egg with he will finish and the other meal he will just have a small amount at and ask for eggs then snack on fruit after. DH thinks it's too much of the same food and that reducing it to every other day will mean he gets hungry enough to eat more variety, but when he doesn't have an egg he just doesn't eat much and fills up on fruit or yogurts instead.
Is 1 a day every day excessive at this age or ok?

An excellent daily food!

Unless it's an Easter egg, crack on

hazelnutvanillalatte · 24/03/2025 13:48

Eggs are healthy and kids that age tend to go off things before long anyway, so I wouldn't worry at all

@Hollowvoicedoes this mean adults too? As I’m fairly fond of an Easter egg for breakfast before work this time of the year.

For adults a maximum of two easter eggs a day is the recommended level.

For the op though, eggs are perfect and much better than filling up on fruit and yoghurt. Just keep offering small amounts of other foods, he will (almost certainly) broaden his pallet in time.

Very healthy choice?
Is kiddo’s name Benedict? 🤣🤣

Yoghurt is fine too, as long as it’s plain yoghurt.

Just keep adding the egg to a variety of different foods. Have you tried omelette for example, adding some cheese, ham, peas or peppers for example - a mixture of what he does like and what he may not have seen before?

Maybe a Spanish omelette with potato.

Scrambled eggs - again can put extra things in it - even if just a bit of spice or herbs to help broaden his tastes.

He may pick out the extra bits at first, but he may try a bit and like it!

But otherwise, an egg is a very healthy thing!

You've accidentally misquoted the recommended guidelines.

its a minimum of two easter eggs per day.

Watch out for constipation.

Daily eggs are fantastic for children that age. You're lucky he'll eat them.
