Park your car on double yellow lines. Do you not think its wrong

I do it. I do it because I’m disabled and have a blue badge and in some areas I’m allowed to.

PersephoneSmith · 23/03/2025 20:17

Yep, blue badge here too, we are allowed to for up to 3 hours.

LadyKenya · 23/03/2025 20:18

Same as pp, but only if I have no other option, of course.

TheSassyTraybake · 23/03/2025 20:19

Depends where. Frequently no spaces on my street at night (like now) and i’m away by 8 in the morning. Always park it so it’s not blocking anyone though. But it is currently on double yellows. Side street not a main road so not in anyone’s way and not that many cars drive along.

It’s paint on the road hardly an ancient Indian burial ground.

Createausername1970 · 23/03/2025 20:20

No, I don't as a general rule.

I have been known to pull up on double yellows to drop someone off if it's not busy and the person getting out is nippy. A faffer gets dropped off elsewhere.

Xiaoxiong · 23/03/2025 20:20

Well, it is wrong, unless you have a blue badge, are an emergency vehicle, or you're actively loading or unloading.

Some people think that they can risk it and have all kinds of ways they excuse it to themselves. We used to live on a high street with double yellows outside our front door and a very narrow pavement so when we left the house with the pushchair it was difficult and I've heard so many excuses - I couldn't find parking anywhere else, the pay machine was broken so I couldn't park in a pay and display bay(??), I was worried I'd lose the car if I parked down a side street, I was late for xyz very important appointment...

Seawolves · 23/03/2025 20:21

I do it because we have a blue badge and a wheelchair passenger, if I park in bays on the roadside then there isn't enough room to lower the tailgate and unload then reload the wheelchair when someone parks in the bay behind me. I often have to park on double yellows when we attend our local hospital because they simply don't have enough BB spaces and as our vehicle is a long wheelbase van it doesn't fit well in a regular space.

SnoopyPajamas · 23/03/2025 20:26

There's a double yellow people always park on near me. They don't seem to realise they're completely obstructing the view of anyone trying to cross the road. It's near a school and it's a miracle a child hasn't been knocked down yet

PlushSuppies · 23/03/2025 20:27

I have a bb so I do all the time. I also park in parent and child spaces if they're closer Wink

Eminybob · 23/03/2025 20:28

Double yellows around here are generally where it is unsafe to park due to visibility of other traffic etc. I know that blue badges can park on them legally but I don’t understand why it is safe for them to do so when it is unsafe for other vehicles.

JandamiHash · 23/03/2025 20:30

When my son is with me yes. He has a blue badge. Which you think would be obvious with the big fat blue badges on the dashboard but at least half the time some muppet, always a man, says “Excuse me love you’ve parked on double yellows”. To which I always reply “You’re correct! well done you”

Because the need to park close to facilities, shops etc outweighs the minimal danger on a road. This is what double red lines and other road markings are for.

Ollybob · 23/03/2025 20:35

I'm more annoyed by those who block the road so cars have difficulty getting through and a fire engine no hope!
Generally in these situations it's 2/3 cars together causing the problem but whoever parked there last is the problem.
Why is the need to park close/outside your house more important than everyone else's safety?

LadyHAC · 23/03/2025 20:40

I know exactly why a certain group of people who occasionally reside on the edge of our village do it. Because they couldn’t give a fuck about anyone else and there are zero consequences. And it’s right outside the shop door.

BestIntentioned · 24/03/2025 00:46

The post office van parks on double yellows at the bottom of our street every day. On a blind bend, on a hill, with a very narrow footpath so when they’re pissing about opening and closing the driver’s door, which they seem to do many, many times, everyone has to walk on the road. It drives me up the wall but it’s a small place and I think if one reported it, one would have to emigrate.

ByTicklishLimeBalonz · 24/03/2025 00:49

Let’s be honest: parking on double yellow lines is wrong. You’re taking a risk. You’re disrupting the flow of things for others, but here’s the truth people do it because of a mix of reasons

Itsabingthingfubing · 24/03/2025 01:10

I'm a blue badge holder but only do it if I have no other option (and only if it's within the rules like away from junctions etc.) This does often mean I end up walking further than the lazy sods who park on the double yellows outside the local co-op cos they think the rules don't apply to them though!

TheSassyTraybake · 24/03/2025 08:08

Just checked - there are no double yellows it’s just not an authorised parking bay. So not exactly double legal but obviously not double yellow worthy either!
