We haven't applied and are just going with the flow (aug born child with significant sen)
no pressure we may go next year if not will home educate. Main reasons terrified of state of the schools at present and want a more forest school experience for her. Anyone else? What’s the procedure in your LA?

I didnt do this as mine are both autumn term, but the procedure in my LA is to apply as normal for the year they should attend, request to start summer term, withdraw application and then apply the following year. Have you seen any local schools you like?

None at all and that’s partly the issue. Inner city London so choices are all appalling and I’d rather have her at home and educating through learning and being outdoors going to our usual SEN groups instead.

I'm in Scotland so it's a bit different here and deferral is much more common. I deferred my January daughter as she would have been the youngest in the year at 4.5. Instead she started a year later at 5.5. No regrets. She is very intelligent but I didn't feel she was emotionally ready at 4.5. The extra year made a huge difference and she is absolutely thriving. I believe that extra year of maturity is beneficial at all stages of education.

The way it works here is that you apply for school the first year they can go and then there's a form you submit to inform them you intend to defer. I'd be surprised if you can just not apply so do check that.

Will the significant SEN require specialist intervention?
