Toddler sick before holiday

hi All, so we are due to fly to Egypt this am and our toddler, who is hardly ever ill, was sick several times in the early evening. She was really tired so we put her to bed early but she woke a couple of time throughout the night unhappy having pooed in her nappy. This morning she seemed in good form, but as soon as she drank water she was sick again!!!
Argh… what do we do, would you risk going ahead since she’s seems ok or reschedule the holiday? Our flight is in 4hrs!!

  • YABU- don’t fly
  • YANBU- she seems fine it’s just a bit of an upset tummy go ahead with your holiday

Ask your insurer and airline about the travel, it may be best to defer a day or two for her to get better.

I wouldn't want to risk it, if she's even vomiting water is she keeping anything down? If she can't keep down water and gets dehydrated and needs medical attention, I'd hate to have to do that in another country, plus if she's sick you're not going to want to be going out and about anyway? Horrible timing for you though, would travel insurance cover it?

Sirzy · 23/03/2025 06:25

This is what travel insurance is for.

hope she is ok, hopefully you can delay it by 48 hours and still get away.

accountdetailschangeusername · 23/03/2025 06:28

Don’t give everyone in the flight noro & ruin their holidays. It’s highly infectious and it’s recycled air on a plane. Insurance will cover this. Call them.

Acornacorn · 23/03/2025 06:34

delay!

Chelseaflag · 23/03/2025 06:36

You have to delay. To do anything else would be astonishingly selfish

Tadah2 · 23/03/2025 06:37

She has a bug, I wouldn’t take her. Not only would it be horrible for her, but you could infect a lot of people in the airport or on the plane and ruin their holidays too, which isn’t fair.

GrazeConcern · 23/03/2025 06:37

@accountdetailschangeusername I agree that they shouldn’t travel, but fun science fact - plane air is filtered constantly - it’s probably the cleanest air you breathe all year. People blame flights for catching illnesses but it’s likely people catch things in the mass mixing and jostling at the airport.

PurpleThistle7 · 23/03/2025 06:49

Definitely can’t go. Call you insurance and see what they can do. She’s not okay at all if she is being sick - 48 hours since being sick is standard so that hasn’t even started yet unfortunately

Maviaz · 23/03/2025 06:52

Sorry she’s unwell, rotten timing.
If you’re going to claim on insurance check the policy details as she may need to see a dr today. Travel insurance usually needs the person to be declared medically unfit to travel. If it’s a 48hr bug (as these often are) she may be recovered by the time you run the gauntlet of the 8am calls to the GP tomorrow and end up with an appointment late afternoon.

JoyousEagle · 23/03/2025 07:04

What do you mean she seems ok? She’s been sick multiple times and can’t keep water down. No, I wouldn’t take her.

She’ll be fine, but spreading a stomach bug is so bloody selfish. And if she can’t even keep water down you need to keep an eye out for dehydration and I wouldn’t want that to become an issue abroad.
