To think a Bowel perferation is serious

Have had a slow recovery after a bowel recession. A couple of months ago. Blood cultures when in hospital grew a bug which is suggestive of a microperferation of the bowel. Hospital plans to give some antibiotic tablets but no further follow-up. Is this normal or just the state of NHS at the moment and need to push for treatment?

Not a medic but personally would be very worried about that OP. Definitely talk to your GP and make sure you know the signs of sepsis and seek medical attention if you feel ill and it might be sepsis.

This is normal. Husband has diverticulitis and this can cause microperforations and the treatment is antibiotics and occasionally if that doesn't help bowel rest. Which is a clear liquid diet and more antibiotics .

sounds standard.

I am purely getting antibiotic tablets and when the ospital can tell the GP which ones to prescribe. Have people usually had IV antibiotics or at least monitoring?

Not sure if related but feeling headachy and nauseus. Don’t have a temp atm but feel a bit like coming down with something.

It's normal... happens a lot to me..sometimes im admitted for IV antibiotics.
It's not usually serious... clears up pretty quick.

I think a micro perforation can be handled fairly easily with antibiotics etc., presumably with the assumption that this will heal naturally. I would expect you to be treated immediately with antibiotics enough, rather than having to wait for a prescription (which it sounds like it is in your case). Larger bowel perforations can be extremely serious, so I do understand your concern. If you're feeling unwell, I'd suggest seeking further medical advice in case it's got bigger. Hope you feel tons better soon x

I.don’t think the perf has necessarily got any bigger but would have liked the antibiotics as not feeling wonderfully well. I had a perferation prior to the resection and that pain was something else. As you say @countrymumof4I would have expected to have been given the prescription for the antibiotics and some clear advice on what the isue is rather than a call on Friday to say this had shown in blood cultures and to wait for the GP to provide a prescription.

@moier Sorry to hear this happens a lot. Do you usually have to wait for the antibiotic prescription? Are there any particular differences that suggest you need IV antibiotics or signs its more serious?

Sorry your husband gets this a lot @readeatcake Are the antibiotics usually given straightaway? There wasn’t evidence of this on a CT but its come back from blood cultures. Just seems strange to being having to wait for the GP to get round to prescribing antibiotic tablets. Presumably the sooner treated the less they need to do.

Not feeling great today. Just shivery and sore. Would it be appropriate to go to the walking?

Yes I think you need to go to a walk in to be looked at and maybe your prescription will be handed to you to collect today.
Also a peace of mind for you
Good luck. hopefully you feel better very soon x
