Both properties are 3 beds in the same village - same price

Property A

  • Village high street so semi busy road, opposite shop
  • Slightly more dated decor but ok
  • Nicer ‘area’
  • Garage in a block but no parking - limited on street parking only so can’t actually park outside the house
  • Layout downstairs is ok but a little unconventional (and 3 seperate, smallish rooms - living, dining, kitchen)
  • end terrace

Property B

  • outskirts of village - no vehicle access to front it overlooks fields (these have been allocated for development of a sports pitch directly to the front and then 500 houses surrounding the ‘leisure/community area) so likely to be lots of building within the next 5 years or so despite no directly overlooking properties planned at the moment, the sports pitch is literally a path width in front of the front garden
  • garage and parking to the rear
  • less ‘pretty’ location quite run down (these house is immaculate - neighbourhood not so much)
  • better layout and more modernised inside (again the other house isn’t too bad but this one is slightly better inside)
  • mid terrace - one ajoined neighbour looks totally derelict

I’ve seen both and cannot decide - or just wait for something perfect?!

Of those two I would go for A to avoid all that building. But I'd likely wait for something else.

DilemmaDelilah · 21/03/2025 19:21

It would be neither for me. Parking is essential (for me) and I don't want to live in a run down area. I would wait for something more suitable - but that's me.

MarkingBad · 21/03/2025 19:21

Neither sound great.

Is this for rent or to buy?

MaryGreenhill · 21/03/2025 19:21

Well to me there really is no contest A every time .
Good luck with your
Choice OP

Differentstarts · 21/03/2025 19:22

Can you look for something else neither sound great. Parking would be quite high up on my priority list after many issues with neighbours concerning parking

Thegirlsdidtheirownthing · 21/03/2025 19:23

Gun to head, I'd chose A but neither sound great. Is parking a big deal for you? I have kids and couldn't be without easy parking outside the house. The derelict house beside B and the future building works would worry me.

Zebracat · 21/03/2025 19:23

A. Every time.

Clarinet1 · 21/03/2025 19:27

A sounds better to me - in time you could update the decor and maybe even reconfigure the layout which you describe as “unconventional”.

CoastalCalm · 21/03/2025 19:29

Having lived on a building site for almost 4 years I’d go for A if I had to chose one but the parking situation would really cause difficulties

ColinOfficeTrolley · 21/03/2025 19:30

You think the parking won't bother you, and you'll always get a spot, but it will become the bane of your life. You said it's opposite a shop, do people park on the street to go the shop. Is there a possibility your neighbours will get additional cars etc.

We moved to a lovely Victorian terrace, stunning house. We loved it. But the parking became a nightmare. Parking up the road and trudging in the big shop, never getting to park outside our house. Neighbour always a tradie, so vans up and down the street.

Now we've moved somewhere with a drive. It was top of my list!

ColinOfficeTrolley · 21/03/2025 19:31

So in conclusion, I'd pick neither of the and wait.

UpUpUpU · 21/03/2025 19:32

It would be neither for me I am afraid.

Cuwins · 21/03/2025 19:33

If I had no option but to choose one then B as parking is an essential for me. But ideally neither

Frostynoman · 21/03/2025 19:33

Neither. I discounted A whilst reading how you described it assuming there would be a better option coming and then thought about a u-turn whilst reading about option B but honestly, none. Think about the flood lights opposite your house or the lack of parking - they both sound busy and awkward places to live

HarryVanderspeigle · 21/03/2025 19:39

Out of those A. If being able to park outside is a deal breaker for you, then neither. Floodlights and large scale building for the next 5 years sound less than fun.

Ilikepianos · 21/03/2025 19:45

It depends on your priorities. When we moved it was schools so the one with the school we liked the most would have won.

Write down what you want ie parking, how much it matters. Do a weighted score. Are there likely to be better alternatives?

Arcticrival · 21/03/2025 19:48

Parking would be a deal breaker for me, especially as most homes have more than 1 car.

If you really can't decided then maybe neither is right for you

Chuchoter · 21/03/2025 19:51

Neither. B is a massive and A is just impossible because of the parking.

Wait for something better if you can.
