Stayed in a hotel for work yesterday, the room was lovely but as soon as I walked in the smell of the bathroom drains hit me. It really was disgusting.

I asked to change rooms but they were fully booked. Wibu to complain? Or would you just put it with it as it was just a one night stay and wasn’t for a holiday.

Yes, complain.

This is a housekeeping or even a plumbing issue that should have been attended to when you asked to move.

Absolutely complain.

If a room hasn’t been used for a while sometimes all that’s needed is to run the shower / sink taps for a while as the water in the trap can dry out so barrier between the room and the sewer - I have this with my en-suite as I don’t use the shower quick blast to refill the reservoir and sorted.

But saying that I would have mentioned it as in a hotel could be difficult to air the room

Annascaul · 21/03/2025 19:40

That should be done as part of getting the room ready, not by the paying guest.

Were you in Spain by any chance?

MasterBeth · 21/03/2025 20:37

You were perfectly reasonable to try and get a room that didn't smell.

Now you've left and as you didn't pay for it, I wouldn't now give it any more thought.

Annascaul · 21/03/2025 20:41

Well, somebody paid for it, @MasterBeth …
Why should op accept sleeping in a smelly room because her boss was footing the bill?
