Have the parents got anything else better to do?

I drove past a school just after 9am. Roadworks with temporary traffic lights. Right by the yellow zigzag lines, were parents sitting in their cars. Drove back on the road at 2pm and the same parents were sitting in the cars. Don't say they sat in their cars for the 5 hours? If that's the case, where do they go for a wee?

Also another thing which happens at other schools around here. Parents park up in a similar position - right by the yellow zigzags. Then someone picks them up, leaving their car there during school hours. Somehow, the parents get back to the cars when schools finish. So they and their lazy kids don't have far to walk. There are no cars parked like this during weekends and school holidays. Think should be a parking limit in place in both situations

Do you honestly think parents are sitting in their cars for 5 hours outside the school???

I’ve known parents still be outside school chatting to each other by the time the children are out having their morning break, and seen them sitting outside school at 2.00 an hour early to collect their children.

No, these people don’t have anything better to do, except maybe make pointless complaints to school over trivial nonsense because they have too much time to overthink.

This thread is a bit daft but some parents do turn up stupidly early just to get a good parking spot. I always think that if you have time to sit in a car for half an hour you could park further away and walk. I feel sorry for kids that grow up to think it’s normal to never walk anywhere.

This^ what an odd conclusion to come to op!

Is it not more realistic that those parents do the majority of the school runs because they either don't work or are in more flexible roles so they can nip out and do the pick ups. Naturally they need to be there before their kids are released so they are ready for them. I'm not sure why you'd think they go nowhere in between times!

The same cars didn't change order. If they did leave and come back later, the cars would be in a different order?

Not sure if you are trolling or you are just dumb.

Pootles34 · 21/03/2025 16:05

What? You memorised the order and the people in them? Do you not have anything better to do?

I think there are far more things to worry about and feel sorry for children about, than where their parents park 😂😂

ohtowinthelottery · 21/03/2025 16:23

I've never known parents sit outside school in their cars all day, or even for any length of time after morning drop off. I have observed parents who turn up in their cars over an hour before school finish time to get a space near to the school gate on a regular basis. This was the case when my DS was at the school (he's 28 now) and parents still do it now. I don't really understand it as some of them only live a 5-10 minute walk away so they'd gave a lot more spare time if they stopped at home and walked to school just before kicking out time. And I know these parents are capable of walking, as are the children.

frillygillymilly · 21/03/2025 16:24

I sat in my car after drop off as I had a phone call & drove because I then went to visit my friend. I then parked in a similar spot at 2:30 because I needed to go to the PO & shops beforehand (school is behind the high street). I needed to post a load of Vinted stuff & didn't want to carry it plus bought some heavy shopping.

I always think that if you have time to sit in a car for half an hour you could park further away and walk.

plenty of people come straight from work though.

WhycantIkeepthisbloodyplantalive · 21/03/2025 16:35

I think they are probably just taking a few minutes to themselves.

..Or, like me, sat in the car for 45minutes on their phone because they forgot their child had a club and by the time they got home would be time to drive straight back, so basically staying in the car was the more favourable option.. saving the planet and sh*t obviously.

i do take your point but sometimes there is a legitimate reason for wanting to be close to the school. For example my DC do swimming lessons at 4 on a Wednesday.. I arrive early to get the parking spot and do some work in my car. Then I pick DD up and we must quickly get back to the car, pick other DD up from nursery and then arrive bang on time to get changed for swimming.

You don’t need to feel sorry for my kids. They do gymnastics, swimming, dancing, parkrun and we often go for walks. Just not immediately after school.
