Mother and sister roll their eyes if I mention it at all. Perfectly normal according to them and wont affect him long term! I know i can't change the situation. He's not my child. There has been no effort to even try to get him to give it up. They dip it in honey any time hes upset and give it to him. I think its ridiculous, detrimental to his health. I have to bite my tongue. Both can be quite passive aggressive, sister majorly defensive about almost everything 🙈

Just wondering general opinions on this

My dd had a dummy till age 6. I won't bore you with why, but yes I felt it was necessary for her. (She also co-slept till 10 - I can feel your judgment from here!).

In the end her sister and her best friend teased her out of it. At 7 the peer pressure can't be long coming, and is probably the most effective remedy.

Children lose the suckling reflex around 7 so soon he won’t want it anymore, I wouldn’t worry. My children were dummy obsessed and dentist was always absolutely fine about their teeth as we had orthodontic dummies. Son gave his up at 4, daughter 6 which I understand is ‘late’ but she still needed the comfort it gave. One day she said it just didn’t feel right as she’d lost the suckling instinct so it felt weird.

Very poor parenting not taking DC to the dentist. Dipping dummy in honey, just yuk. I wonder what will happen when he wants a sleepover or to go away on school trips?
