WIBU to make a claim to bathroom installation company

A major national company fitted our new bathroom last month (well they sub contracted the actual installation work to a freelance plumber, but the payment was made to the company and the plumber told me he sometimes works for the company and sometimes does his own work).

This week we have had a major flood which we discovered is as a result of the plumber botching a bit of the piping. We will claim through our home insurance as there is significant damage to carpets, ceilings and walls (a hole in one ceiling), furniture and flooring. The insurance company will put a claim in to the Plumber's liability insurance to recoup some of the damage. But I feel like we have a claim against the company. Ultimately it was them I signed a contract with and paid.

Please can someone advise me if there is anything I should be doing - as when I google I just get ads for 'no win no fee' type solicitors and I don't think that's a good route to go down.

i may be wrong but from what I understand your home insurance company will pay for the damages. What are you suing the company for?

I’d leave it to your insurance company to recoup the costs. Unless you mean you want compensation on top of recouping the costs of the repairs?

I agree with PP, leave it to your insurance company.

I worked in construction any issues I have I go to the company you subcontracted and not directly to the subcontractor. The company should have their insurance and they may then claim off their subcontractor depending on their contract. This is how it works for me so assume something similar would apply, but I would just let your insurance deal with whoever they see fit. If your trying to claim additionally (not sure why if your claiming through insurance?) I would check your paperwork as they likely have something in there about the work being subcontracted. Most of these places don’t have their own install team and sub it out
