We should bring back the stocks for people who lit bonfires on sunny mornings?

Why do people do it? What’s wrong with driving to the top or getting waste collected? Can’t put my washing out or open my windows.

A halfway decent sized garden can produce far more pruning waste at some times of year than the brown bin will accommodate, tbf. I’m fortunate that we’re quite near the recycling facility and I’ve got an estate car capable of carrying a large dogwood thicket or three in a few runs.

Surely if the garden’s that big it can accommodate a compost heap? We have a narrow, long garden - had a huge clear out recently, filled out bin, dumped the rest in the back of the garden and filled the bin again the next week.

Before we had garden bins we’d do a run to the tip.

My rule is if I think people might have washing out, be sitting out or have windows open then I don't light it. So usually on a cold evening, when the wind is blowing away from the village.

We have four very large compost bins but still have extra, and it's the woody stuff that we burn, that isn't compostable anyway.

On the first nice day last year, had all my windows open, my cunt of a neighbour lit a fire in one of those silver bins with a funnel on the top. Burning loads of paperwork. Positioned it right on the edge of his property and as far away from his house as possible. Smoke filling my house. I messaged him and asked him to move it. Never responded. He is also the type who pops his dog poo bags in other people's bins. The wrong colour of bin.

My neighbours are terrible for this! You can guarantee as soon as I hang my washing out, their gardener turns up and lights the biggest bonfire possible! Drives me mad.

Stocks?

Na let's go straight for a public whipping of people who complain about something to do with washing.

Well as someone who has had their local
tip closed this year and an allotment owner who has asked their council to supply and been told to try and dispose of their rubbish another way, I think I’ll definitely be having bonfires this year as I don’t want to waste fuel and time travelling to a tip 30 minutes away.

I have a large garden and find it easier to shred stuff like branches and tough stems. Or compost it and reuse if it’s smaller and leafy. Lawn clippings I just refeed the lawn with.
I got my shredder off freecycle and it eats just about anything. It has saved me many a trip to the dump. I’ve never had to burn anything.

The kind of people who are selfish like this won’t change becsue it’s been pointed out to them.

You van report people if they keep doing it.
Don't we live in smokeless zones now?

My neighbour has fires every week. They have been reported to the fire service, police and council. Nothing can be done. Reporting achieves nothing. They are allowed to have a fire. The fire brigade have been out and discussed how to do it safely, but that’s all.

They don’t consider when people have washing out, they don’t even take their own washing in before lighting up
