Milk Ladder Tips Please

Hi,

Not really an AIBU but posted on here for traffic.

My DD is 15 months old and is still on stage 1 of the milk ladder

We initially started it when she was 12 months old and she did cry with tummy aches and had loose stools so stopped for a bit then tried again.

The second time she was okay in terms of tummy symptoms but developed eczema on the back of her neck - again we stopped for a bit.

The last time we tried it, she just seemed quite refluxy. Couldn’t see any signs of eczema but the reflux could be excess drool from teething.

I want to know other people’s experiences of The Milk Ladder please - I know it varies from child to child but is there anything I can do differently?

Do I just keep trying every six weeks? Has anyone’s child not got on with the Malted Milk biscuits but got on with other dairy items instead?

Thanks

Joining for tips too! My son is 17m, and still gets the cramps and wind from small amounts of dairy.

The one thing I've found successful is to add dairy back to my diet because I'm still breastfeeding.

I've also tried out small amounts of lactose free milk in recipes, which does seem to be more tolerable than whole milk.

@sha160528 so difficult for you all.

Is this of any use?

*Do not proceed to the next step of the ladder even if your child has eaten the required amount before day 7. Simply repeat this same amount on the remaining days before moving to the next step.

@beetr00thank you for this. It’s a little different to the ladder the dietician gave to us but I’m open to trying variations

@TheNinkyNonkyIsATardisit’s so sad to watch 🥺. How long have you reintroduced dairy back into your diet for now?

A couple of months now, and it doesn't seem to affect him. It gave me a few cramps coming back onto it, but none now.

It was like magic cutting it out when he was little, he used to wake screaming in the night until he pooed, then quickly down to one a day, no issues.

I just want him to be able to eat things without checking the label!

@TheNinkyNonkyIsATardisI feel your pain! I feel awful when I eat something that has dairy in it and my DD looks at me attentively asking for some but I have to give her an alternative that stinks 😩.

Hats off to you for cutting out dairy of your own diet, DD’s on Neocate for her allergies, again, like you said - I’d love for her to be able to eat what we eat and not have to religiously check the label on everything!
