Shall I just chuck it all in the bin?

I am on a decluttering mission and its been going well. I have sold a few things on facebook market place and I donate anything that doesn't sell quickly to the charity shop . I am frugal and try to use up things without being wasteful. I am careful and try not to buy stuff without an immediate need .However , I used to buy things just in case before which is why I am annoyed now.

Ive just cleared out the utility room ( posh name for a tiny cold dark space with a sink and a cupboard) and found a load of cleaning stuff - all opened , lots of bottles of zoflora and sprays of all kinds. Its all in a couple of big plastic boxes taking up space. All partly used and abandoned because not quite right of whatever.
I still have plenty of laundry liquid and surface sprays /cleaning stuff - everything really .

It goes against the grain for me but ...
Would I be unreasonable to chuck the excess in the bin so I have more space for the day to day stuff I do use.?

Put it on Olio for free.

Kpo58 · 18/03/2025 19:46

Do you have a local freebay type group on Facebook. People often want the most random things. Just make sure that you lost them honestly.

Calypsocuckoo · 18/03/2025 19:47

Is there an animal rescue or somewhere that might like some laundry or cleaning products ? If not Just pour them away and then recycle the containers.
you need to make space and not hold onto things you won’t use.

Pop it outside your gate with a note saying ‘free to take’.

I struggle with this too. I have so much stuff I don't want, but can't quite bring myself to throw usable items away.

I've found boot sales to be useful, and just sell everything for 50p. For me, it isn't about the money, just about giving things a new lease of life.

We have a Life is a Gift Facebook group after the demise of the free cycle one. People put all sorts on there, something like that would be snapped up.

BeeCucumber · 18/03/2025 19:49

Pour away the contents and recycle the containers.

doglikescheeseontoast · 18/03/2025 19:51

We have a ‘Given in Kindness’ page on Facebook in the city where I live. All sorts gets offered on there, and it’s always taken by someone.

cressidahun · 18/03/2025 19:52

Olio for sure, someone will snap your hand off

Vanfan · 18/03/2025 20:02

Darn you all for being sensible. 😡

I totally forgot about Olio as an option.

So instead of merrily tossing it all out in one fell swoop Ill have to list sets of whatever,

But actually - thanks for the reminder. I will feel better about doing it this way.

You could still list it all together. Someone will take it all, keep what they want, and pass on the rest. You just need to specify that. (Happens a lot on ours)

Pour away the contents and recycle the containers.

Please don't pour cleaning things away...
