AIBU to ditch wedding for holiday?

Team leader has invited our team (10 of us) to her wedding reception on the bank holiday weekend in a couple of months time.

I've not RSVPd yet even though the deadline has passed but I know she thinks I'm going, everyone else is.

My dilemma is, I have a 4 day weekend and I'd prefer to go and visit my best friend who lives in the UAE.

Would I be unreasonable to ditch the wedding and book the flights?

Should I tell her or just pull a sicky on the day?

Or should I just suck it up and go to the reception...

Just tell her & send nice card & voucher or bottle of champagne 🍾

Just decline politely, visit your friend.

Perhaps you and your colleagues need to think about how you separate work from the rest of your lives, if I have understood the workplace dynamic you have.

I think it's pretty normal when you work full time to get to know colleagues really well!
