WIBU to lend out MY mop?

My DM brought me an electric steam mop thing a couple of years ago, it was in the range of £50-60, I didn't ask for it but was very grateful.
Anyway a couple of years on I have carpeted more areas in my house and I now only use a spray mop mostly as the only hard floor I have now is in my small kitchen/bathroom.
DM recently asked me if she could have the steam mop back as she has had hard floor put down and doesn't want to buy one when she knows I have one unused 99% of the time, I completely agree and said it would be fine but I had recently lent it to a friend who has been down on her luck recently and as it wasn't being used & she was in need of one I told her she could use it until she sorts something else with no pressure as to when to give it back.

My DM wasn't impressed I'd lent it out and while I'm happy to ask my friend for it back AIBU to think I was perfectly in the right to lend it out as it was mine? Or as my DM brought it as a gift for me should I have asked her before I lent it out?

I wouldn’t lend my mop out to others. Mops are dirty and so are people. Your friend couldn’t buy herself an inexpensive mop and I don’t think people should ask for gifts back. It’s rude.

Steam mops have attachable cleaning bit. You can buy brand new ones. The rest of it (the steam bit) is like a kettle, doesn't touch anything dirty.

OP, once a gift is given it's yours. Your DM has no right to be put out and if I were you, I would tell her so. What a cheek! She has no rights over her gift to you. It's ok for her to claim it back but not OK for you to lend to your friend? 🤔

It does have like a detachable head which you can wash so I wouldn't consider it dirty.

Friend never asked me for it but as it wasn't being used and she was in need of something I was just being kind.

I still wouldn’t. Things get broken and they forget they borrowed it and then you have to chase them down to get back. They can go a Howe store and get their own. I don’t like the idea of it.
