Can the DWP just stop my PIP?

Hi i have the enhanced rate of PIP and have another 2 years on my current award. I’m worried sick about tomorrow.

Mine is for mental health. I’ve read that it’s going to be stopping for that. Is this correct? If it is, will they just stop my award out of the blue straight away or would it be stopped when I go for my next renewal in 2 years.

im frozen with fear and it is utterly degrading my mental health even more.

I think it's the lcw element of UC that will be scrutinised and it will be a case of what you can do not what you can't.
My Dw went through it last year with UC they relented after a health assessment and work reassessment that she wasn't physically able to work more than x hours and she gets ADP(Scottish version of pip).
Hopefully a clearer picture tomorrow,I think it will be watered down to some extent.
Some of the clickbait headlines have been an anxiety inducer for many people.

Work coach reassessment.
We had to provide a Dr line stating her condition and max hours she could work and that satisfied what they were looking for.

At the moment under current rules they can't just stop your PIP until the end of the award (except for certain circumstances such as fraud). As far as I'm aware, the Govt is only thinking about changing the rules, possibly the descriptors and points that go with the descriptors which would happen when they reassess you.

However you need to remember that being in receipt of PIP doesn't mean that DWP regard you as being unfit for work-many people (me included) work as well as receive PIP.

Appreciate your fears. The plans aren’t finalised yet so what’s in th3 press is speculation at the moment. The government seem to have mental health conditions in their sights but my hunch from many years of experience is that it won’t necessarily be an outright ban, but making it harder to get ie people less severely affected won’t qualify or will get less money.

What’s coming tomorrow is the Green paper, ie proposals, these may get altered before the next stage which would be the White paper and then it has to get through both the Commons and the Lords. So no, your award won’t stop out of the blue straight away - and maybe not at all. There’s a lot of pushback on this.

We should shout from the rooftops, PIP is what enables a lot of people to work and without it, they won’t be able to work.

Mine is under review at the moment. Like you, I’m so worried. I’m assuming mine will go as it’s got MH too.

Discoprincess6 · 17/03/2025 16:43

Thank you all.

i do work, 30 hours a week. I found out last week via media my job is always going. So this is just too much.

Feel you. I hope you get it. So sorry you have to go through this

Nobody (except the government) knows. Literally everything you read is just speculation. There’s nothing to be gained by worrying about it now so if you possibly can I would try to forget about it until they announce something.

Boomer55 · 17/03/2025 16:48

The announcement is tomorrow. Until them it’s all speculation.

Newfoundzestforlife · 17/03/2025 16:52

I'm scared too....my son has Autism and we've recieved the dreaded "reassessment" forms...

BobbyBiscuits · 17/03/2025 16:55

The short answer is no. They can't. But I know how you feel as I'm in the same predicament.
They can't do anything for ages anyway as the backlog is so massive for everyone, my award has been extended twice now because they cant process all the new claims in a timely fashion.
I'd say if you're on UC and sick that's more worrying thing for now.

Autism is a disability rather than a mental health condition (but obviously has a huge effect on MH).
From the little I’ve heard re the announcement the gov are focusing more on people who can’t work due to anxiety and depression (rightly or wrongly)

TinklySnail · 17/03/2025 17:19

Oh my lovely, don’t worry about things that aren’t going to happen for 2 years.
We don’t know what will be announced and you’re going to make yourself poorly worrying.
Currently PIP is based on symptoms and difficulties, not diagnosis.
I honestly feel that if you have been engaging with your GP, therapy or support services you have nothing to worry about.

Orangesandlemons77 · 17/03/2025 17:31

As far as I know it means a person needs 4 points in one section as well as the usual 8/12 needed for PIP, this was in the Times yesterday.

ARichtGoodDram · 17/03/2025 17:34

Nobody knows, the government are still trying to hash it out amongst themselves

Changes to legislation take time though. Nothing is going to change overnight

No one knows, so information like this is futile, and serves no purpose. People should just wait, until the proper sources, ie the Government makes it known.

Nothing has been confirmed, it all has to pass through parliament yet. Lots of it could still change
