Endoscopy fears

Evening all, I am really starting to freak out over my endoscopy in 2 weeks.

My parents have had them, both with very different experiences.

I think I'll ask for sedation because I think I'll freak out otherwise, but in doing that my other concern is I've recently been diagnosed as asthmatic and I'm concerned I'll panic and feel like I can't breathe.

As a young person I've had quite a few operations and not nice things done in between, so this is all hospital trauma based.

Sorry for being dramatic I'm just so so nervous 😓

I said YANBU because it is nerve wracking. However, the sedation is great. I really didn't think it was that bad with sedation, I've done without too. If it is down the throat then the sedation works wonders and it didn't hurt a bit, sometimes can be a little burpy but the sedation stopped a lot of that. If it is the other end then the worst part for me was drinking the movicol, I'd advice thinking carefully about the advice and be cleaver with your white foods. Also, for me the movicol in the fridge, with a straw, mixed with lemon cordial helped. While having the procedure the camera going around the bend can ve uncomfortable. But the time I had sedation and breathed properly as they tell you too then it was absolutely fine. Good luck! Also, have a treat idea for after that help thi k about and get you through.

I would recommend the sedation. I also have some trauma associated with hospitals etc, and I found this a good option. It felt a little strange going in (but not like I couldn't breathe) but it meant I don't remember anything between having the sedative and coming round to be given a cup of tea and a biscuit in the recovery ward!
The nurses were very reassuring before mine, I saw one to give my medical history etc and she was able to answer any questions.

You will be fine I have had 2 - one NHS hospital and one private at The Nuffield - the private one was less rushed and gave me sedation - NHS just throat spray - which didn’t do anything I felt it - doesn’t hurt just slightly felt uncomfortable- however procedure is very quick - try not to worry it will be over in a flash !

I've had it with and without sedation. Without was absolutely horrendous, never again. With sedation was a breeze, don't remember a thing, might have fallen asleep.

My hubby had the up-the-bum camera with sedation. I picked him up after, and he was in the best mood ever and high as a kite! He wanted me to walk up 4 flights of stairs with him and I literally had to force him to take the lift. I’m not saying it’s the same at all, but I do know that sedation they give is the best stuff ever !!!!
he didn’t enjoy all the prep for it as him bum was practically glued to our downstairs loo - but the actual procedure he was fine. He’d been sobering up for an hour when I got him back and it was like he’d had 4 champagnes and his horse had come in at the races 😆😆😆😆 You will be fine!!!!

Take the sedation. Legal highs are to be cherished.
