That this isn't a normal convo to have with a 14yo?

Today in s completely casual way (no pun intended) my 14yo DD said that she was told off for singing "Casual" by Chapell Roan during PE. Then we said that it wasn't really appropriate at all.. and then she said maybe it was appropriate for "Life Skills" as it was ultimately a life skill. We kind of laughed it off, but I don't think I would ever have had that conversation with my DM. The sing mentions oral sex FYI.

I guess there's being open about things and encouraging things she's a bit young to be so into oral sex, I would have shut the conversation down as good you know about it but not really a topic of conversation at your age. And don't cheek the teachers.

knephew · 15/03/2025 22:18

@Qwertyme thats not ‘brilliant’ that’s really fucking scary and misogynistic for a teacher to come out with. And it makes no sense. It’s no easier to remember than anything else. But, hey it gets that man off to be able to talk to 14 year olds about vaginas eh

She’s not ‘so into oral sex’ FFS.

She simply knows what it is, and that it’s a normal thing people do as part of a sex life. I’d be extremely surprised if a 14-year-old didn’t know what oral sex was.

Why are we assuming it was a male teacher?

Note: it wasn't

Not really related but when my daughter was around that age, her maths teacher taught them a good way to remember the fomula for Density = Mass / Volume:

It involved Daniel munching vagina.

I thought it was genius.

We love chappie in this house, and I love belting out the inappropriate lyrics. Hope you're daughter continues being herself, as there are too many carbon copies if girls in this world.

Ha ha! That reminds us when a science teacher went over the colour spectrum and order of Rainbow colours. We said
Richard
Of
York
Gave
Battle
In
Vain

Our teacher, maybe we were 16ish, taught it in reverse
Virgins
In
Bed
Give
Young
Ones
Relief

Not quite as risqué, but In my 50s and still remember it!

Adhikv · 15/03/2025 22:40

Sounds like she’s testing you to see how you react; my teen DD would do the same and we found that not giving much of a reaction stopped it. If she knew we’d be disapproving she’d continue to make a point.
That or I’d start a deep conversation about casual sex and that it’s fine but you need to both be ok with that and if one person develops feelings then that person can get hurt etc etc and she’d wish she never started the conversation!

Adhikv · 15/03/2025 22:41

Sometimes I knew she was trying to wind us up and other times it was a way of starting a conversation that she didn’t know how else to start.

My sister worked for an airline and they got taught the priority in a ditching as:
Protection
Location
Water
Food

Amongst crew it was remembered as Pilots Like Wet Fanny 🤣.

JustSawJohnny · 15/03/2025 23:48

I don't think most people think about lyrics much at all, especially if just mindlessly mumbling a song they're thinking about. It's certainly not indicative of anything likely to transpire in real life.

If My Head FM is playing Fuck the Police on repeat and I have a little sing along while doing the ironing, I'm really not planning on grabbing a blunt or a gatt or slapping a ho, ya know?

Anyway, there have always been risqué songs. Nothing new, is it?

I didn't know! (Or I don't remember knowing) BUT I lived s very sheltered life.

To be honest I think the teacher was trying to get her to stop and the problem is your daughter and not the teacher.

to be fair it’s pretty lame compared to the put her brothers which we were all singing at 13

LeedsZebra90 · 16/03/2025 12:44

Did she specifically refer to oral sex as a life skill or was it more the actual context of what the song is about - cause what I take from it is that it is a lesson about relationships and determining what you want from someone/what they want from you is a huge lifeskill. If the former, yep I think inappropriate for a conversation with your mum but if the latter then fair enough, I agree.

BarneyRonson · 16/03/2025 12:46

Singing in PE?

You definitely led a very sheltered life indeed if you didn’t know what oral sex was at the age of 14. I turned 14 in 1990 and went to a girls’ comprehensive school and I genuinely don’t think there was anyone who wouldn’t have known about it. Apart from anything, it was referred to in the teen magazines we all read and passed around.

Everlore · 16/03/2025 13:00

Off topic I know, but your daughter has a great taste in music, Chapell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter are both brilliant! 'Casual' is a beautiful song from a superb album and I don't think the lyrics are excessively graphic, just emotionally charged.

Why would I lie?

Yes it happened. She told them her little mnemonic used to be driving motor vehicle, but a few years prior her old year 11s made up a new one, which she shared with current students.

It wasn't a man, it was a woman. She shared with her year 11s so they also weren't 14.

But yeah, I totally just made it up for shits and giggles 🙄
