Mini break in a hotel with Dc?

We need Dd out of the house for 24-48 hrs whilst we use some chemicals for removing mould & decorating.

Choice A: One of us will do the job needed early Saturday morning..1-2 hour job, then house to themselves for the weekend. They will then have the rest of the time in peace, no one else home except for Ddog, no parenting needed, can watch Tv, order takeaway…whatever.

Choice B: One of us will drive around an hour away to a hotel near a beach with Dd, visit the beach, zoo, science museum & cafe. The room has breakfast included (can be ordered to the room) any other room service and indoor pool.

Which of these would you choose?

Dc is 6 years old

More expensive for us all to go and to put dog in kennels too at the moment unfortunately

Then I'd do a lower cost weekend for everyone and skip the zoo and museum.

I’d choose A.

And that’s precisely why after my divorce, and having lived alone (albeit with my children!) for a few years thereafter, I have realised peace and solitude in my own house is my preference above anything else in the world.

Booooooom · 15/03/2025 16:21

Definitely B for me. Sounds fun!

SalfordQuays · 15/03/2025 17:42

As a single parent of teens who’s done all of it on my own for years and years, I would choose A without question. But when the kids were about 6 it would have been different. I loved doing trips with them, it was hard work but great fun. Now I just want sleep and peace, and I wouldn’t even care if I was inhaling poisonous gas!!

Glowinglights · 15/03/2025 17:47

I’d be completely happy with either option - so win/win. I’d check if my dp had a preference and go with that

The house to myself.

Mind you I’m probably swayed by the fact that I have lodger that never leaves the bloody house. Absolutely hate that he doesn’t and I’m too skint to get rid of him!

You could try spraying some toxic chemicals around on Saturday mornings?

TeamMandrake · 15/03/2025 18:18

I don't know why people are trying to solve the problem of having two amazing options to chose between, by suggesting ways to have a less nice time instead. 😂

Can you pick A, and then - oh no - decide the mould needs a second treatment, and swap and do B in a few months?

Ihitthetarget · 15/03/2025 18:21

Time with dc absolutely! 6 yr old are fab to spend time with.

Blackbookofsmiles1 · 15/03/2025 18:23

A.

A., is the correct answer.

It would not make a blind bit of difference. Never realised that someone can literally do fuck all 7 days a week apart from watch tv and go to the shop for food. Some weeks he doesn’t leave the house for days!!

EdnaTheWitch · 15/03/2025 18:32

A, because it’s such a rare event. And I’d love every single moment.

Oh gosh! I'd be in despair. Get a life, man!

Neither.
I would send one parent out with DC and dog while the other did the job that needed doing, and then everyone would go away for the weekend

Id go with this too

Buttonknot · 15/03/2025 18:39

Both sound nice! If you can't decide, I'd say the person who generally sees less of DD should do B.
