Saw GP Weds who hmm’d over the rash and said maybe a sports injury. However the petachial spots continue to develop. Would you be concerned? Does not blanch under pressure.

It could be histamine. It could be low platelets. Try antihistamines and topical anti histamine. Try drinking chlorophyll in your water to boost platelets.

What's ED? I also thought you meant you'd had the rash for 13 years

OriginalSkang · 15/03/2025 10:44

I would go to A&E

Eastereggandbunny · 15/03/2025 10:45

Obviously don’t want to look like a neurotic parent but I am worried. No other symptoms apart from tiredness.

ED = Emergency Dept which is now the official name for A&E / Casualty.

BarneyRonson · 15/03/2025 10:47

Give up dairy. Looks inflamed.

Seeline · 15/03/2025 10:53

How far has the rash spread since the GP saw it?
From the picture of the back of knee(?) it looks very extensive.
Do you have a walk in service nearby?
You could try ringing 111 for advice.
If it has spread rapidly though, I think A&E may be sensible.

The behind the knee has stayed the same, that was the one GP saw. The additional patches of blood vessels have now come up on feet, thigh and ankle.

I'd call 111 first. Get advice

Seeline · 15/03/2025 10:57

Does your 13yo remember doing anything that could cause an injury like that?!
It seems unlikely he wouldn't have noticed something to cause an reaction like that!

As the new rashes are in different locations, I don't think you would be unreasonable to take him to a&e

skinnyoptionsonly · 15/03/2025 10:58

To add, if this was my child- I'm not giving advice- if they had temperature and were unwell, feeling crap/ lethargic that would make a big difference to my approach.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 15/03/2025 11:00

Looks like a post viral rash, can happen after a mild viral illness. Given that your child is otherwise well and you've already been seen by a doctor i think you'd be wasting your time at A&E

Tiswa · 15/03/2025 11:00

Does he have other symptoms - is could be auto immune (HSP etc)

could you get an ooh appt

Hi, I don't wish to alarm you, but this looks very like what my own teenage son had, which was IgA vasculitis. We were sent straight to A&E.

Callimanco · 15/03/2025 11:04

If it's on legs and feet I would be thinking possible ITP - immune thrombocytopenic purpura - which is basically very low platelets - though this rash looks dryer. Here's DS' legs when he had it.

Who is this

Sassybooklover · 23/04/2025 07:26

I could be Vasculitis - usually appears after a virus but could be part of it. Also have your GP test for Epstein-Barr Virus, it's a virus that most children contract before the age of 5, with little to no symptoms. It lays dormant in the body, until something like a virus reactivates it. One of the symptoms is tiredness and a rash. Also ask for a separate blood test to test specifically for Glandular Fever. EBV can cause Glandular Fever. My son tested positive for EBV last year and had Vasculitis, ended up under the hospital. It's taken him months to recover.

You've had a rash for 13 years and now you want to go to the emergency dept?
