To think there is no point in complaining about the NHS

Done PALS and now doing the Ombudsman. Had a search to read of the experience of others going though the process and there are pages and pages of shocking 1star reviews re quite serious complaints some with damning evidence, all not upheld.

if the PALs and Ombudsman process is so shit and pointless where does that leave patients?

Some people take legal action. Is that a possibility?

B1llBen · 15/03/2025 06:16

No, sadly not.

I just find it slightly scary that in reality there appears to be no credible complaints process as one that is pointless is not worth having.

The NHS is well and truly dead. It was destroyed by hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants. It's gone.

Well that isn’t true.

Hannah do you think a ratcheting of expectations as to what the NHS is responsible for may also have contributed to some extent? Or the challenges of inadequate social care forcing the NHS to pick up that slack? Or costs spiralling because because people charge NHS £££

We clearly needed some migrants to staff it. Do you think there might be more to its failure than simply migration?;

Wowzel · 15/03/2025 06:38

The problem is that there just doesn't seem to be the money to fix it, and it has been run down more than I can ever remember happening before

I know that what will fix our department is the new hospital we were told we would get - half the issues are related to overcrowding and long delays. But we aren't getting one for at least 10 years

YDBear · 15/03/2025 06:38

It’s no relief for your problems, I know, but the very fact that there’s so much criticism on the NHS on Mumsnet these days is a good thing. The NHS has been broken for a decade at least, delivering the worst medical outcomes in Europe. But for so long it has been heretical to suggest it’s anything less than wonderful. Actually it’s rubbish, and I consider myself luck to be married to a foreigner such that if there is anything seriously wrong with me I can go to my spouse’s country for treatment.

I don't have much truck with the NHS but it was certainly not hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who have brought it to its knees. In any event it won't be hundreds of thousands using it; at most a tiny percentage and I'm not persuaded there are hundreds of thousands.

Therefore, in old fashioned MNet terms DFOD.

In my experience there are areas of good and I am still very grateful we have the NHS. I can see there are pressures on it but there are pressures on all public services. Pressures don’t negate the right and need for a credible complaints system.

Well, there must be, the NHS pays out huge amounts in compensation each year.
Why can't you get a no win no fee firm to represent you?

In my experience, problems are best nipped in the bud at the ward level.

Not everybody using and complaining about the NHS is on a ward or wants money.

But yeah, the NHS has been utterly and totally destroyed, along with London and many other cities in the UK, by millions of illegal immigrants
What planet of delirium are you living on? The reason for the struggles faced by the NHS is the increasing number of people living longer with long term conditions. The biggest cost to the NHS is diabetes and people blocking beds because they are ready to be discharged but have nowhere to go.

If you want to allocate blame, look at our nation full of people who don't know how to live healthy lives any longer. Poor diets, too much drinking, smoking and lack of exercise is what is leaving the NHS on its knees.

Stop your stupid propaganda, you have no credibility and uttering complete unfounded rubbish.

vivainsomnia · 15/03/2025 07:21

OP, what was your complaint about. Some complaints go nowhere because patients have expectations that go against legislations and the local Trusts can do nothing about it.

Wellayeneva · 15/03/2025 07:22

Hannah2024 · 15/03/2025 06:24

Nothing to do with decades of underfunding and being sold off by the tories for their own financial gain then?

Michelle mone being given millions of pounds of our money for faulty covid gear?

I guess it's been made very easy for racists to blame vulnerable people instead of looking critically at their overlords.

Agree. The NHS is a victim of its success. People are living longer as a result.
Nhs gets plenty of money, just ridiculously squandered.

I made a complaint about an A&E that failed to notice I was having a heart attack in spite of me providing them with the information of diagnosed coronary artery disease. They sent me home. Subsequently it was treated with a stent at another hospital.
The hospital investigated my complaint and I received a full report several weeks later outlining the steps they had taken. They recognised their protocols had been breached and had revamped these and also upped staff training, including my case in the training programme.

I am pleased that others might be spared the problems I had and who knows maybe a life saved.
I was surprised that they were so open about the failure ... I might have sued them!

It’s about time we took in the European model for a health service. NHS is a shambles

I can't see the point in pursuing a complaint, unless it involves compensation for loss of earnings or severe mal practice.... if its because someone wasn't polite or other such trivia, why? just wasting everyones time.

But i don't know the ins and outs of your situation.

This is part of the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) - being as open and honest about learning and improvements as possible
