Is 5 children weird

For a soft play birthday party?

Dd will be 7 in summer. She’s not been very well and we think a small party with a few close friends would be best this year (previously had larger parties)
There’s a soft play place she adores, i’m not sure if they’d do it for just five children, but I will ask, but is it a bit sad?

They won’t do a ‘party’ just for 5. They usually have a minimum number of 10 children. Just take the kids and find a table. Buy or take snacks and do your own party.

StrawberrySquash · 14/03/2025 23:38

Not at all weird. And as she gets older parties will likely get to be smaller anyway.

Answeringaquestiontonight · 14/03/2025 23:41

You will likely have to choose to either pay for the minimum number (which will probably be above 5) or just take them to soft play and buy them some food yourself. Either will be just fine.

Not sure if they’d allow me to bring a cake then 🤔

I wouldn’t book a party for 5 but you could just go and pay for them. Do a cake after

ACynicalDad · 14/03/2025 23:53

We’ve had cakes outside the party room a couple of times, may not be a problem.

2025babyfever · 15/03/2025 07:49

I’d just take the 7 kids into soft play and have snacks there then go home and have the cake? Sounds like a brilliant birthday to me

2025babyfever · 15/03/2025 07:50

5 not 7!

Genevieva · 15/03/2025 07:50

Trampolining?

I can’t imagine anyone being so harsh as to deny a 7YO their birthday cake at a soft play centre, but if any workers really are that jobsworthy (which I doubt), do the cake in a park or something afterwards.

Would you consider asking them if you could?

HeyItsPickleRick · 15/03/2025 08:00

Why not ring up and explain and ask if you can bring a cake?

DaisyChain505 · 15/03/2025 08:21

Ring and ask if you’ll be able to bring a cake (which I doubt you will be)

If not go to a park or a McDonald’s afterwards, get them all a happy meal and then pull out the cake.

Dizzybob · 15/03/2025 08:29

I’ve done similar OP and just took my own cake (didn’t ask in advance if it was allowed) I didn’t risk lighting the candle though as I thought they’d say something but we still sang Happy birthday. I just got there early to make sure I got a decent size table and ordered some food to the table while the kids were playing. Had party bags prepared ready to hand out at the end. Worked fine and I don’t think the staff cared really.

HS1990 · 15/03/2025 08:31

I once did a bday for my Dd and 2 friends plus my newborn. We did soft play and just took a gift for the 2 friends as a party bag substitute. Didn't bother with a cake tbh

Sherararara · 15/03/2025 08:34

We’ve done similar and brought our own cake. Just double check with the soft play place before hand.

Chimummy73 · 15/03/2025 10:24

I did an unofficial party at a soft play a few years ago and just got some really nicely decorated birthday cupcakes rather than have the mess of cutting a large cake, you can always buy a small cake to have at home with candles as well?
