36 weeks water broke

Hi ,

I am quite worried and wanted to get some advice from people with similar experience or that they have heard similar stories. My water broke almost 48 hours ago at 36 weeks and 2 days. I went to the hospital and they said to take antibiotics and stay home till Monday when I would be induced or have a c section. I asked for a c section as the baby is already huge and this was the initial plan at full term. I am still loosing a lot of the water and I am worried for the baby. What do you advice ? They asked me to go on Saturday so they take blood , shall I insist to be admitted and have a c section early ? Shall I go in this afternoon to say I am worried and I want to stay in the hospital? I don’t want something to happen to me or my precious baby

I would go in and ask for monitoring, say you are worried about baby due to time of waters being broke. It might put your mind at rest and you can then discuss next steps with them. Good luck!

I would go back in and ask for monitoring too. I had thought at 36w they would have kept you in (in UK). I went into labour at 36+3 and was kept in until I delivered two days later - baby all ok. Good luck!

Thank you . I guess they are busy that is why they didn’t want to keep me in. Baby is measuring already 4 kg. I am so worried trying to feel him move and when he does not I am freaking out . Still loosing a lot of waters so not sure if all is lost yet. Thank you . I think I will wait for my husband to finish something with work and about midday we will head to the hospital instead of the standard midwife appointment we had. I will tell them for reduced movements and that I am worried and hopefully will keep me in or bring the c section forward

My waters went at 35+5, 6 weeks ago. They went with a massive gush and I was leaking for hours and hours. Went straight to hosp and they put me on a monitor & checked my dilation. I wasn’t contracting or dilated so they kept checking his heart rate. They asked if I was sure it was my waters 🤣 his heart rate kept going up & down and they gave me IV antibiotics, had a load of doctors and consultants in and out the room for an hour. His heart rate was really high. They decided to do a section, got me ready, his heart rate stabilised and they said oh maybe you can wait and have normal birth, consultant left the room, 2 minutes later his heart rate dropped to like 40 or something they pulled the emergency cord 20 people came running in & within 10 minutes he was out of me and absolutely perfect 🤣 we had a load of people there in the room ready to wheel him off to nicu/ to help him breathe but he came out screaming and didn’t need any help and stayed with me on the ward for 4 days! he’s 6 weeks old now and perfect.

id go back and ask to be kept in and monitored xx

@downbadd yes baby heart rate was fine and no signs of labour that is why they just prescribed me antibiotics and let me go. But I think in this stage of 36 weeks and 4 days he is better out than in. I will insist they keep me in the hospital

Just to give you an update. I asked to be kept in but they said as it was a busy London hospital they did not have enough beds so their policy is to send me home. I gave birth on 37 weeks with c section. I was supposed to be in the morning c sections but because of many emergencies I gave birth 7.30 in the evening. My little perfect boy is 7 months and all this is now behind me

@Sofita90, almost 36 years ago my waters broke (it was my first pregnancy) at 29 weeks. My elder son was born two weeks later, he was big for dates at 4Lbs 2oz. I was in hospital on bed rest during those two weeks. He had to stay in the neonatal intensive care and had feeding difficulties so I couldn’t breast feed, he couldn’t suck through a straw until he was 4 🤷🏼‍♀️.
I was under the impression that 36 weeks was basically ‘term’ if a little on the early side.
If it comforts you at all, he excelled at school and eventually gained the highest A level grades at his academically selective secondary school. He went on to study medicine at one of the world’s most prestigious universities and is happy, healthy and will be the father of three in January.
I hope it all goes well for you, I know it’s a scary time. Good luck!
