Can I put movicol in ice cream? Using yoghurt and something like this https://www.lakeland.co.uk/33036/lakeland-mini-digital-ice-cream-maker-05l-homemade-ice-cream-in-25-minutes-plus-sorbet-and-yoghurt?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping+%7C+Catch+All+%7C+Low&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw4cS-BhDGARIsABg4_J29717uDYjQzQk9XS_GL-XBRAaAx-rxqpata_lOrxK2OQWnFBpFLv4aAp5SEALw_wcB

Or any other suggestions for how to get it in a two year old? Tried smoothies and and milkshakes without much luck. Thanks

Would it be easier to make in an ice lolly mould?

Also, and it wasn't ideal, but when we had a horrible antibiotic to get into our refusing 2 year old, we allowed coke with the meds mixed in. He was so amazed by the forbidden coke it worked most of the time.

Ninja Creami would do it. Then you can turn whatever fruit they like into sorbet and put it in that (well labelled so other family members don't snaffle it :D )

supercalifragilistic123 · 13/03/2025 07:22

I was told as long as you mix it in water first you can put in anything.

Apparently there are Facebook groups for movicol help.

My daughter is older now so will take it, but it was so hard when she was refusing it.

GroovyChick87 · 13/03/2025 07:24

I put it in orange squash.

@UpsideDownChairs What's the difference between a cheap ice cream make like the one I posted and the Ninja Creami please? There's a huge price difference so would want to make sure it was worth spending that much money. Thanks

Thanks for the ideas, is squash better than innocent smoothies then? I hadn't tried it as I didn't think it'd be as good.

He tends to get into more of a mess with a dripping ice lolly than a bowl of ice cream and a spoon.

You need to mix a sachet with 125mls water for it to activate or it doesn’t work so you could do that and then add it to something

x2boys · 13/03/2025 07:43

I made ice lollies with it.

EdithGrantham · 13/03/2025 07:43

My DD has it mixed with squash, her current favourite flavour is cherries and berries and, bizarrely for a child who is quite a reluctant drinker, the one with the medicine in is the one that goes down quickest. He also doesn't need to drink it all in one go if that makes it easier, he can drink it across the course of the day.
But yes if you want to try it mixed with ice cream it's worth a try, I think as long as you mix it with the correct amount of water and don't cook the Movicol itself (it can be added to cooked food) then it works fine

joshingaround · 13/03/2025 07:50

I drink it everyday mixed with Tesco orange and pineapple squash. One sachet in a 1 litre of diluted. I also drink this squash without Movicol.

I cannot taste the difference. Just make sure you shake it well - you could you use a large one litre drink bottle to mix and then decant into a sippy cup or similar

MovicolHelpPlease · 13/03/2025 08:32

Thanks all, yes I currently mix the sachet with 65ml of water as per the packet instructions and then about 50ml of strawberry milkshake or innocent smoothie and then he drinks about half of it over the course of the whole day. 😔

I used to stick it in fruit shoot bottles. Awful, yes but DS was distracted by the fact he was being given the forbidden fruit. I've also turned it into jelly before.

ShodAndShadySenators · 13/03/2025 08:44

The adult Movicol is liquid and orange flavoured, our doctor prescribed it for our DS having worked out the doseage by his weight. Our Ds wouldn't take the kids' sachet type. It's maybe worth asking? We used to put it in orange juice rather than squash as DS preferred strong flavours (not great for his teeth but needs must sometimes - and his baby teeth were fine with no decay when they fell out) but it must be said that it did still taste slightly medicinal.

I'd give the ice cream a go, whatever works. My dentist admitted he'd given his kids cola with meds in after tutting about the orange juice - sometimes it's not ideal but you do what you have to...

MovicolHelpPlease · 13/03/2025 08:50

Thanks, I think part of the problem is that it's every day. So the juice was initially exciting but now it's not special anymore...

Why is it awful ? it got it in him job done.

Op I how much a day is prescribed? Can't you mix it into orange.squash leave a jug in the fridge and you can pour him a drink throughout the day? You are faffing with smoothies and he's not drinking it anyway.

Different flavours on rotation through the day or mix of some in squash, some in a smoothie, some in ice cream? If he eats yoghurt or porridge you could also add a little to those

DeclutteringJane · 13/03/2025 09:28

IDK about movicol specifically, but in answer to your question about different ice cream makers, the cheaper ones like the Lakeland one work to make ice cream just fine, I used to have one when the kids were smaller.

Bippityboppitybooo · 13/03/2025 09:32

Fruit shoots for us here too, purple ones. Dd3 doesn't know it tastes a bit wrong because she's never had a fruit shoot without it.

We've recently had to add senna which is proving super effective. Even with 2-3 sachets a day of movicol, dd poops about once a week, I think everything is all stretched out now. Waiting on a referral to community continence team now.

oooh NIGHT AND DAY!

normal icecream maker - doesn't really work in my opinion.

Ninja creami turns frozen fruit into the smoothest, creamiest sorbet (despite no cream being involved) - totally delicious (we like tinned mango here, but the tinned cherries were good, and fresh peach was amazing too)

every couple of weeks I make fresh gelato (took a while to get good at that - kept curdling it, but it turns out that if you liquidise it after curdling, it's still fine) after I read the ingredients on the one we buy and decided to try and avoid them.

Basically, you whack whatever it is (custard, fruit etc) in the little pot, freeze it solid, then the creami shaves it and whizzes it into smooth icecream. It's unlike any other gadget I have, and I can't think of anything that could do what it does.
