I find myself getting irked by stupid news headlines saying thinks like “ ‘exact time’ snow will hit uk” ; always “exact time” this “exact time “ that. It’s so inane. Is this irking anyone else?

It's just as annoying as "Celebrity SLAMMED for posting nostril online" or whatever. Why is everyone being slammed everywhere?

Wetbag · 12/03/2025 17:26

I've honestly never seen that! It must be news outlet specific.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 12/03/2025 17:31

😭😭 yanbu, they usually pop up on my Google homepage page feed thing

It's always always click bait

Also, we're getting so many breaking news headlines lately, coinciding with the orange president but its overwhelming

DataBeach · 12/03/2025 17:32

It sounds a bit tabloidy

It’s soooo annoying ! Today’s one is from ‘my London news’ , they just appear on my home page when I open chrome , I don’t even click on them !

I don't like exaggerated language but this is not an example I'd be upset about.

Headlines generally drive me crazy. "Mother (35) dies of pneumonia". Whose mother FFS? Why is it relevant at all that she is someone's mother?

Justme2023123 · 12/03/2025 22:19

Can I add, fans are all saying the exact same thing about X show / celebrity blah blah blah? And then you click on it, and the article is nothing like it.

JasmineAllen · 12/03/2025 22:30

It's the 'dead at' that I really dislike. Eg 'xxx dead at 73'. I'm noticing it more and more and I find it a bit of a crass way to announce somebodies death.

Hemlocked · 12/03/2025 22:41

I despise it when they use the word 'just' in a headline. Here's a real example from Forbes: "Ukraine's best European missile just shot down it's first Russian jet".

Why on earth do you need the word 'just' here? You're a news outlet. You report the news. It's new, therefore it's a given that it's JUST happened FFS.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 12/03/2025 22:42

I hate news speak. I remember when a woman was murdered, she was described as 'dinner lady mum'. Wtf, doesn't she have a name?

I also remember someone killing their wife and the main focus of the story was him giving their kids crisps to distract them.

Omg those headlines are the worst! Pure click bait

Makes you wonder about journalism sometimes!

100% agree , no need for the ‘justs’!

Yes it’s horrid to talk about people like that , where is the respect?

Agree completely about the ridiculous 'exact time' clickbait headlines. How stupid do they think we are? I also hate 'here's why'. All the papers do it, e.g 'Putin could be a better man than you thought. Here's why', or 'Beige pyjamas are hot this spring. Here's why'.
