Battling with Kia over warranty

We purchased a 2017 Kia Sportage outright from a Kia Garage in November.

We were given a years warranty.

At the end of January, the drivers door stopped opening, I have to climb across passenger seat to open it which is a pain as I'm pregnant.

DH called them and it went in to be repaired yesterday, he was told that this is classed as wear & tear and may not be covered. DH stressed the fact that we purchased the car from a Kia Garage to ensure we were getting a reliable car as we have a toddler and I'm pregnant and need to be able to get to hosp appointments, DD's swimming lessons etc. They were quite abrupt to DH on the phone and more or less said it's not covered but DH pushed for them to look at it.

Today they have contacted me to say that the door lock mechanism needs replacing which is covered under warranty however to get to it they have to take the door card off (bit where the handle is) so we are liable to pay the costs for the door card and labour which is coming in at £570.

If the door lock mechanism replacement is covered by warranty then how can we be liable to pay for what they need to do to replace it? We have gone back to ask this.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? We can't afford £570 right now when we have to buy a double pram etc. we paid £13,000 for the car outright and we liked the idea of having a years warranty.

This does not sound right at all. They have admitted lock is covered under warranty so how they go about fixing it should also be covered l. I hate dealing with these companies as the dem to be making it up
as they go along.

It would be interesting to see what kind of warranty that is as the Kia Approved warranty only applies to cars under 20 months old/20k miles. I’m also quite surprised they retailed a car of that age. As with all these things, the devil is in the detail - what does the warranty wording actually say?
