To think I was probably over promoted

I have a exec level role after having done middle management roles for a while, but I think I was probably happiest when assistant to senior people - making myself "indispensible" to them, having the answers and being on top of things, solving all their problems, but not actually holding the responsibility.

In this role I'm not particularly overworked but findiI have become a terrible procrastinator. I've blamed a bereavement and menopause, but maybe the job's just not for me.

Anyway, I've resigned and planned to retire, but I saw a very PT role advertised on a good day rate doing something similar to what I was doing 20 years ago. I excelled in the interview, if I say so myself. When the interviewer called to tell me I was successful they said they couldn't believe their luck!

And for the first time in ages I find myself excited about getting my teeth into something and doing a good job at it.

Congratulations on the new job.

Often people get promoted to the point they are in a role they're not suited to and/or good at.

Usually people get promoted to a new role because they were good in a different one. People work their way up until they are no longer excelling at their current level, when they've reached their limit.

Sometimes it's a capability thing, sometimes it's just that the new role is so different to their previous one they are not particularly interested in it. It's normal and can be seen in just about every organisation around.
