Fan heaters in the office

AIBU to ask a colleague to turn off the fan heater blowing at her feet?
i am genuinely unsure. If it was cold I would have sympathy but it is not. I have struggled with it many times but today is the second time I've asked her to turn it off. It's too hot regardless of which of the free desks I sit at. She got the hump and moved herself and her heater to a different corner of the office (I have to sit in the specific area, she doesn't)
am I being unreasonable saying please turn off the fan heater in the office?

Can't she just wear thick socks? If the overall temperature is 18+ I don't think it's appropriate to have a fan heater however cold you personally feel because of the affect on others. I have raynauds among other issues and I wear thermal underwear and have thick over socks and thermal lined boots in my arsenal to keep warm

Surely your employer is the issue here. Your workplace should be warm enough without people having to use heaters.

If she is using this while the central heating is being fixed you are completely unreasonable not to be able to deal with it for a few days.

Yep, but it's local government, so it's shit. She's been using these heaters all winter, not for a few days. I know it's not warm outside yet but it's mid march, it's warmer than winter.

I would have thought so but it's not my place to say that. As I said unthread, on the last occasion she was wearing a short sleeved sweater. I think that's ridiculous personally but I wouldn't say it.

You don't have to Pat test new appliances.

Our office is set at 22°, its quite small and the windows don’t open, so it gets stuffy quite easily. We had someone bring in a heater and have it on all day everyday, not only was it too hot, it also meant the central heating turned off as the room was warmer than 22°, which in turned caused the heating in the adjacent office to turn off as they’re on one thermastat. Thankfully facilities banned the additional heater and provided a footwarmer, it just looks like a squidgy round disk, it plugs in and heats up enough to warm feet, but has little impact on the surrounding environment. So the rest of us are no longer sat at our desks sweating all day.

Thank you - I'll discuss other options like that with facilities/my manager if it continues. To be fair it's cold today, my car warning came on, and she's chosen a desk in a corner where the heat is blowing only at her. But it's not sustainable!
