Am I making sense/taking the right decision

I work as an interim contractor- the sector I’m in is under huge pressure and known to work you to death- the last role I was in I work until 12/1 AM and then start over again at 7 AM. The weekends were just for me to feel half human (amongst all the cooking cleaning childcare etc) to start over again on Monday. I’m ambitious and always grasped opportunities with both hands. My contract ended couple of weeks ago and interviewed today to be offered a role- now the issue is during the interview it became apparent that the team has a high turnover
team not happy
im expected to do a lot of the tasks as supposed to just directing the team
It’s not going to be a 9-5 as they are in a lot of trouble
i will need to do a 3 hr commute (1.5 hrs each way if no traffic issues) for 3 days
which means I’ll be permanently exhausted.

im up for the work challenge but not for the commute- I’m going to turn it down in this basis but not sure if I’m making the right decision.

Sounds like you’ve answered your own question. I certainly wouldn’t put myself through any of this - even the long hours you currently do. But we are all different. Go with your gut.

@HR313 Thanks- my gut says don’t do it unless they are willing to look at one day on site - as I know it’ll be unpaid long hours of work

It sounds like a miserable life. At least as a contractor you can do this in short bursts if you want/need to. Moving to staff would cement you into this exhaustion and make it hard to get out - unless I've misunderstood?

@takealettermsjones this is a contract as well however my last one was similar in terms of work load but not the 3 hour commute.
