Adult sized breakfast bowls

Hive mind. Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy breakfast bowls which are the recommended intake size for adults. There must be something. I can't faff on with measuring every morning. More first world problems. TIA

Are they smaller than regular cereal bowls?

If so my mum uses sugar bowls. There always seems to be some in tkmaxx.

Maybe try cricket targeted at kids?

We've got John Lewis Luna dessert bowls which are great for limiting portion sizes

FabuIous · 09/03/2025 10:42

It depends what size of cereal I suppose though? Some will be more dense than others and you’ll need smaller bowls. Eg muesli.

Even once you’ve worked that out I think you’re still at the mercy of how full you fill it and will need to roughly measure or weigh somehow.

We have some Denby small bowls, that are just big enough for one of the mini packs of cereal that you get in the variety packs of cereal. I believe that one of those mini cereal boxes is about an adult portion?
So even if we’re pouring from a big box of cereal it’s not possible to go much over the amount you’d get in a mini-pack of cereal.

There’s a link below to the ones we have but they do have a range of different colours etc.

I use little dessert bowls from Ikea - they are just big enough to hold the recommended portion size of porridge - which is 40g of oats and 200ml of milk or water.

No bowl is going to be the exact size for recommended intake. If it is important for calorie intake then the only answer is to weigh. It really isn't a faff. Get scale put bowl on scale, pour cereal in until recommended gramms reached. The only difference to normal is the bowl sitting g on the scale to pour it.

I was just about to say the same, they're a nice little size.

Use small ziplock bags and weigh out your portions for the week on a Sunday. You can reuse the bags.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 09/03/2025 11:15

You can get digital food scoops very cheaply or larger dispensers that dispense a 30g portion if you don't want to change bowls

Cakeandusername · 09/03/2025 11:19

£10 scales from Amazon. Put bowl on set to zero add cereal. Or if you have a ramekin/american cup weigh once and see where up to. A recommended portion if cereal is small. If it’s something like blueberry wheats count them. Or weetabix no need to weigh.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 09/03/2025 11:21

Just use a measuring cup for whatever serving size suits you.

Newbigginboy · 10/03/2025 14:05

Update. I've ordered a couple from Denby, and will get some more from IKEA next time I go. Thank you to everyone who responded. Great advice, very helpful and didn't make me feel like an idiot for asking.

Just get some digital flat scales - put the bowl on them and pour out what you need?

I used small bowls from Sainsbury. They have a few, a bit smaller than regular bowls. They're very useful for a range of things.

As a portion control thing, I just measure in tablespoons and since I don't eat cereal or porridge (to lower the carbs) this is my daily intake.

2 tablespoons chopped berries
2 " milled flaxseed
2" milled chia seed
2" full fat Greek yogurt
1 " protein powder (not always just if really hungry).
Water or soya milk to loosen the mix.

Any bowl will do!

Old ones - like from charity shops. My mum gave me a couple she bought in the early 90s and they hold about half of what my modern bowls hold!
