How likely is it that I’m going to be unwell?

I have emetophobia, so asking on here for some rational advice!

My parents had D&V last weekend, I think the last symptoms were on Monday this week. I spent the day with them yesterday, I know the normal advice is 48 hours but obviously they can still shed whatever virus they had for longer than that…

What’s the likelihood that I’ll now become unwell with whatever they had?

I think you'll be fine as it was way past 48 hrs after they were ill. Did you ensure you washed your hands properly after visiting?

They visited my house but I’m always quite vigilant with washing my hands anyway, I never touch my mouth, always wash my hands before eating etc…

You'll be fine then 🙂 I have emetophobia too so I understand.

No one can say you won't get sick. However, if you get sick it's very unlikely it would be from your parents and much more likely it was from an encounter with someone who was still unwell.

You definitely won't catch whatever they had.

D&V has an incubation time of between 12 and 48 hours. That’s the time it takes to inhale/ingest a virus or two and then the symptoms start. Based on that, I think you’re in the clear.

The virus particles can survive a long time and be shed in faeces for up to two weeks after you’ve stopped being ill though. If your parents used your bathroom for a number two, then I’d clean disinfect the surfaces if I were you, and open the windows to let the air circulate.

Hang on, did you go to their house? Btw virus particles can hang around on surfaces and survive for up to two weeks.

In future, don’t go round their house just after d&V and definitely do not share food or drink.

I didn’t, they came round to my house but I have clinell wipes so I’ll use them today around the house

If it helps I work in the medical room do secondary school with 1600+ students. I've been there for 18 months and not picked up a sick bug yet (touch wood!)
