To be a bit 'meh' about International Women's Day

Just that really.

My LinkedIn is full of posts from women ( mainly promoting themselves) about today.

Just fed up with it all.

Life still goes on unpleasantly for women , not saying my life is , but let's focus on other women not those who promote' look at me , look how great I am '

IWD has no meaning now that the men in dresses have hi-jacked it.

Indeed. Women who don't go along with this new ideology have been excluded from the international women's day event being held in my town today. I cannot imagine anything more ironic.

Not a fan. It sounds patronising. Is there a Men's Day? I don't think so. If there was I would understand more. I'd get rid of it.

November 19th is IMD.

@aspidernamedfluffy Thanks. I didn't know there was a Men's Day but whether it's men or women I'm not sure what the point is??

Boomer55 · 08/03/2025 16:52

All a bit too patronising for me. 🙄

@InTheBalmyMidwinter, here's some info re IWD, the "do we still need International Women's Day?" section may be of particular interest to you.

I had one on my LinkedIn on 'empowering' women to defend themselves from unwanted attention and advances from men on public transport. Talk about I'll conceived, rather than celebrate women let's teach them how to avoid mvawg. Let's hope there's a post on men's day telling them not to be filthbags in the first place.

Exactly!

My local Women's Rights Network group were banned from the Hastings IWD event because the organisers (Hastings Women's Voice) decided they weren't sufficiently "inclusive."

I'm not on LinkedIn so haven't seen any self promotion posts. I use Twitter and Facebook, follow women's rights campaigners and organisations so my feed is full of posts that I think are aligned to the best of IWD.

I have seen lots of posts that have used IWD to highlight the suffering of women in Afghanistan.
