To think I've passed my probation?

Tomorrow is the end of my probation period, however even though I've chased it twice I still have no meeting on my calendar, absolutely no reason to think I haven't passed it. And from what I've read, it's possible to pass it "by default".

Depends on contract and policy/procedure I’d imagine.

Where I work they trigger the review the last day on probation period and this involves collecting 360 feedback and evidencing that everything is being met. Then signed off at various levels.
it definitely wouldn’t be a default pass.

Yes, very possible. If there had been problems, you'd have heard about those by now and given notice.

I don't ever recall having an official chat at the end of any probation periods. I just keep turning up to work and enjoying the paycheck at the end of the month Grin

Congratulations!

It would be terrible practice to extend probation or let you go without any indication there was an issue. So either you’ve passed or your workplace is toxic.

Do you expect anything to change? In my lad5 job, my notice period changed from 1 week to 1 month, but that's all. I assume that HR would follow up with a letter to that effect, as it's a contractual change, but I made use of the fact I was still on one week's notice, and left instead.

In my new job, I had a letter to say my probation was being extended by 3 months, which was just doen to some security clearances. Thst actually came through this week on what was the last day of my original probation. I've not had anything to say my probation has now ended (but my manager is out, and she might need to push some buttons.) I did have a letter to say i get a bonus because of the clearance, and I have been allowed more restricted system access.

Other than notification from HR about changed notice periods or anything else which changes as a result, I wouldn't be that bothered.

As per my offer letter my salary would increase by 4% plus some bonus stuff, and that my notice period changes to 3 months.

It's good practice to have a meeting to confirm end of probation, and confirm in writing, but sadly a lot of organisations don't. If you've not had any negative feedback, assume that you have passed probation by default.

I once had an employer extend my notice, nothing to do with my performance, but because they'd been so chaotic I'd had four line managers in six months.
I hated the job anyway, they were really pissed off when I gave them a weeks notice.

ThinWomansBrain · 08/03/2025 11:53

If you don't get the salary increase, pick that up with them after the end of probation date has passed.

Gravytanned · 08/03/2025 12:22

My contract states that probation is passed at 6 months by default if not extended. So basically, if my manager did nothing and didn't hold a review meeting then they can't extend it beyond then.

This is what happened to me.
