Friend keeps sending stupid reels, what should I do?

She will send 3 or 4 daft Facebook videos in a row. I'm not interested nor do I have time to sit and watch several 2-3 min long videos several times a day. I feel rude ignoring her or telling her not to send them though, any advice?

OP posts:

My friend does this too. I just don’t watch them & dont respond

Icanttakethisanymore · 08/03/2025 08:09

Either let her know (gosh sorry X, I’d love to take a look but I’m rushed off my feet!) or just respond in a very untimely fashion and eventually she’ll stop I’d have thought.

MarioJumbo · 08/03/2025 08:11

I feel you OP. I find this kind of thing a time sink and bloody annoying

rivalsbinge · 08/03/2025 08:12

I deleted Instagram as I had the same non stop reels. Just ignore.

I thought you meant - respond I’m a similar fashion - so send a loads of your own reels of your choice and see how she likes it !! Was gonna go no … NO!! @Grin

Alalalala · 08/03/2025 08:13

Just ignore!

Ferrazzuoli · 08/03/2025 08:13

Just don't respond.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/03/2025 08:13

Yep I have a friend who sends me around 10 tiktoks a day on WhatsApp, he is now blocked, which was easy as he wasn't a close friend. In your case I'd ask her to stop and if she doesn't, block her for a while

Createausername1970 · 08/03/2025 08:14

I have friends who do this. I just ignore the reels and every couple of days I deleted them all out of the thread so I just see "conversation" not spam.

alwaysdeleteyourcookies · 08/03/2025 08:15

I look at them when I have time. My friend sends funny ones, though.

ilparadodosdoltos · 08/03/2025 08:19

The only way it would be rude to ignore was if she had lovingly created these reels herself and you’d expressed an interest in seeing them. She hasn’t.

You have to get yourself to a place where you know you’re not being rude. Imagine you’re a brain surgeon operating on one of her parents! I know that sounds crazy, but sometimes it helps to put yourself into the position of someone who couldn’t possibly have the time to respond and be that person. A version of ‘what would so-and-so do?’

florizel13 · 08/03/2025 08:27

Oh God I have this issue too! She will send several at night ...I never chat on social media at night, when my Do Not Disturb is on, and she must know that by now as I don't respond till the next day! We aren't close friends. It's now occurred to me she might just be sending them to several friends in her contact list not just me 😄

It’s a phenomenon called pebbling. It’s her way of showing she’s thinking of you and she cares (it’s based on something penguins do!)

Its fine when you see her to tell her you appreciate the sentiment but you never have time to watch them so would it be ok if she stopped.

dudsville · 08/03/2025 08:48

Don't give it a second thought. It's OK not to look at them, and you don't have to explain or respond in any way.

Didn't know the term pebbling, thanks for this explanation.

I don't inundate people with these but omg I do this. 😭😬

It's usually a short funny reel and sometimes it's to do with things they like so I send...

Wow think I'll stop now after reading these. It's only because I'm thinking of them but oops...

They are never 2 to 3 mins long though. I can't sit through things that long either.

Edited

It's not always a bad thing. I have it with friends. See PP post about pebbling.

MarioJumbo · 08/03/2025 09:22

Next time she comes over your house - or you in hers - I’d get up and dance a very lively, vigorous Scottish reel. When she kind at you completely baffled and asks what you’re doing I’d say

“oh just celebrating the excellent concept of reels that social media has brought us”

but this outlines PERFECTLY my sense of humour !

GretchenWienersHair · 08/03/2025 09:26

She’s sending you things that make her think of you. It’s a sign of affection. You don’t have to watch or respond and if it’s annoying just tell her.

romdowa · 08/03/2025 09:26

A friend of mine used to do this , I tried the whole "I'm busy haven't had the chance to watch them " and when that didn't work I ignored them completely, in the end she lost her shit at me for not being a good friend and she blocked me. Which was quite frankly a relief, she could send 5 or 6 in an hour and I'd no interest in watching them. I'd have much preferred a conversation
