To ask if anyone's survived on statutory maternity pay?

My new job offers it, as far as I know it's 90% earnings for 6 weeks? Just wondered if anyone is on or has been on it, and how you managed? How much leave did you take?

Saved up.in advance and had 9 months off (that was maximum allowed in my day)

Well, yes. But are we talking just maternity pay? We wouldn't have survived on just that but we did survive on that plus my husband's wage. We had low outgoings! Returned to work when DS was 13 months as took a whole year, and used up my annual leave prior to returning.

Yes people survive on it, by saving ahead or having other household income from partner or investments, and making economies. You get 90% for six weeks then a flat rate for 33 weeks.(Currently £184). How long you take as ml may affect your role on return.

I think its hard.

I had saved up as we had quite a bit of notice, as we were actively trying rather than a surprise. I also had my partners salary. Must be much harder for a lone parent of an unplanned pregnancy.

I had 8 months off both times, some of that was accrued annual leave
