Thanks :) we tried to find somewhere reasonably cheap but realising it’s not all that cheap after all! Looking for days out

Wheelbirks Ice Cream Parlour

Alnwick Gardens

Northumberlandlass · 07/03/2025 15:21

Came on to say Wheelbirks & White Hall Farm - depending where you are in Northumberland, beaches are never that far away!

thaegumathteth · 07/03/2025 15:22

White House farm
Life centre in Newcastle
Ice cream at the beach - seahorses, spittal, alnmouth etc
Bamburgh castle
Cocklawburn beach at Scremerston for a wilder beach but no facilities
Good play park at spittal beach too
Alnwick gardens has a massive play structure but not sure how expensive it is / how suitable for little ones.
If you're in north northumberland then east links farm at Dunbar.

Where abouts in Northumberland are you staying? And how far are you willing to travel for a day trip?

Ywwww · 07/03/2025 15:52

Thank you! Staying in Morpeth

Cragside National Trust - there's loads of outdoor play areas and trails

The walk from Craster Village to Dunstanburgh Castle

White House Farm as mentioned by a PP

Crazy Golf at Seahouses

it's a beautiful part of the world!

Definitely Whitehouse Farm, lots of animals, different areas to play in and the cafe is decent. I'd also recommend Wallington Hall and Gibside if you have NT passes, Cragside is absolutely amazing but I find the other 2 more kid friendly and shorter walks to the parks. The beach as Bamburgh is absolutely beautiful and there's a new Walled Garden. If your little one likes boats Serenity at Seahouses do brilliant cruises, they last about 90 mins, another lovely beach there too.

PruthePrune · 07/03/2025 16:15

There's Northumberland zoo near Morpeth, just off the A1.

Sweetpea232 · 07/03/2025 16:17

When are you visiting? Recommendations at Easter will be different to the summer holidays - although to be fair either might have a wide range of weathers!

justanothercrapbedtime · 07/03/2025 16:20

I've done Northumberland with toddlers a few times (twins)

The walk from craster to the castle is pretty long. - my 4 year olds only just managed it this year and there was a LOT of crying on the way back 😂. Ok if you taking a pushchair (need decent off road one) or a carry system for them. End of the day though it's just a ruin so probably no interest to them

There is a big soft play in seahouses and also one at the leisure centre in Alnwick

Mine love Barter books watching the train go round and also the vintage train museum in Alnwick.

Alnwick gardens always good and they often do children orientated events during holidays
They'd be far too young for Lilidorei I would suggest

Mine love Amble watching the fishing boats and the little park

Sweetpea232 · 07/03/2025 16:25

But if you’re staying in Morpeth there’s Druridge Bay country park nearby, with a cafe and play area and a walk around the lake but also only two minutes walk to the huge sandy expanse of Druridge Bay.

or Amble - boat trips to Coquet island, ice cream And fish and chips at the harbour, views up the river to Warkworth Castle.

as others have said Wallington Hall is a very toddler friendly National Trust house, lots of flat level paths and quite compact.

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 07/03/2025 16:26

How old a toddler? Still napping? My general aim would be to run them off on a beach or in a castle in the morning, and find somewhere indoors for the afternoon.

Sweetpea232 · 07/03/2025 16:27

And if you’re staying in Morpeth the new sports centre in the town centre has a soft play and cafe.

han01uk · 07/03/2025 16:27

We stumbled across Cragside NT and it was a lovely day.

Lovelynames123 · 07/03/2025 16:27

There's a really good park in Morpeth itself, obviously weather depending, with boats on the river.

Northumberland Zoo and White House Farm both great for little ones, and Druridge Bay has a lovely park, ice cream and beach.

It really depends on the weather that you get, Ridley Park at Blyth has a fantastic splash park but it won't be open til later in the year

Thank you! Staying in Morpeth

Whitehouse Farm
Castle Park in Morpeth, you can hire rowing boats
Beach at Seaton Sluice has a good playpark
Amusements in Whitley Bay if it's wet
Aquarium in Tynemouth if it's wet. There is crazy golf and a maze in Tynemouth, too
Loads to do for not too much money (Alnwick Garden is expensive)

claudiawinklemansfringetrimmer · 07/03/2025 17:43

Trying to think of stuff that’s cheap/free

-Plessey woods (very close to Morpeth and massive play area)
-Seven stories (story museum)
-Beach (Creswell/Druridge bay is particularly lovely)
-Rising sun country park (play area and animals)

DisforDarkChocolate · 07/03/2025 17:48

Wallington is far better for toddlers than Cragside.
