To ask for a book recommendation

I’m absolutely desperate to get into reading again. I’m sick of wasting my evening on my phone. I am looking for a book to get me hooked again. I’ve read about 8 books in the last two years and they have all been non-fiction about Titanic.
In 2020 I read 75 books! I would love to be like that again. I’ve looked back at my list to see what I was reading. These are some I remember really enjoying. Hopefully that will help people make recommendations:
The Haunting of Hill House
The Woman in Black
The Guest List and The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
All of the Riley Sager books written by that point
Then there were none
Circe
The Flat Share
Some Heidi Perks
Some Lisa Jewell
Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas
Any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Unsure if it's vibe you are after but I loved fourth Wing

I just picked up Babylonia by Costanza Casati. It's a novel about Semiramis of Assyria and her rise to power.

If you like Lisa Jewell you might like Clare Mackintosh. The Dc Morgan series are good. I have enjoyed all her books but after the end possibly needs a trigger warning. Dorothy Koomson is another good one in a similar genre.

happy world book day x

You might want to try something by Gillian McAllister. I've just read her latest, Famous Last Words, which I found gripping.

Hide - Nell patterson - similar vibe to the Lucy Foley books

Three Hours - Rosemary Lupton

Hostage - Clare Mackintosh

Books you may enjoy

I love Linwood Barclay books and I recently read How To Sell A Haunted House by Grady Hendrix which was really good. Loved The Only One Left by Riley Sager.

Alwaystired2023 · 06/03/2025 20:55

Big Brother by Lionel Shriver was my first book to kickstart reading for 2025 and I'm on number 8 now :)

The earlier Douglas Kennedy books are brilliant;

The Pursuit of Happiness
A Special Relationship
The State of the Union
The Woman in the Fifth

One of the Girls - Lucy Clarke. Similar to Lucy Foley.

The best thing I did to get back into reading was Kindle Unlimited. I read about 100 a year.

Square of Sevens. Fantastic read.

Ahhh I love Douglas Kennedy and haven't read any for ages so thank you for the reminder!!

As for recommendations.....
Strange Sally Diamond I couldn't put down and got me out of my post baby reading rut!

The earlier Dorothy Koomson books are great and she's now branched off into thrillers!!

Mick Herron's Slow Horses novels are very good.

I love my kindle also which surprises me as I always thought I’d be a ‘real book’ person, having been an avid reader since a child.

Freida McFadden - every book of hers has been a quick easy read. Some better than others, but none I've hated

Therapeutic70 · 06/03/2025 21:59

The Kiterunner
The Hummingbird

Yes, I second the recommendation for Three Hours - I loved it and I also think it would be a good one to get you back into reading.

And I've liked all of Clare Mackintosh's books - loved her first I Let You Go.

Tana French is good

Erin Kelly - He Said/She Said, and Watch Her Fall

And now I'm going to look at Hide by Nell Patterson as recommended by Gundogday :)

I don't think these are like any of the books on your list, but they are so beautifully written that it really didn't matter tome whenther I was interested in the period or the person(I wasn't), but these two are among my most loved books ever!

Memoirs of Hadrian by Margerite Yourcenar
The Last King of Lydia by Tim Peach
