Does a micro wedding in Europe even work out cheaper than a typical wedding here?

I am getting SUCH different estimates.

i have decided i would prefer a micro wedding abroad. Somewhere like Tuscany but tbh anywhere warm in Western Europe with pleasant scenery (ie not a faff to get to).

Im thinking we rent a villa. And then do activities like a wine tasting at a vineyard, a boat/beach day with meals out. A 3/4 day affair for 15 people. Just parents and siblings.

I do want it to be aesthetic but not necessarily 5 star as we probably can’t afford that. But enough to spoil our loved ones.

I just really have no practical experience with Europe.

Ive found a stunning villa just outside Florence which we could book at a cheaper rate in May. £10k/week. After which it jumps to £17k+.

I guess I’m just asking if people reckon it’s feasible to feed and entertain people and have a small ceremony for £10k. The reception would be a meal followed by a any random club.

Yes. We had our own wedding south Europe ( local to where we live).

we used local 4/5 star hotel, rented 20 rooms for everyone for 2 nights (so 3 days at hotel), had wedding all facilities like pool for use for guests, all food for 2 days, a excursion and transport for day of wedding for everyone etc. 40 guests.
was €9k total.

When you say you are spoiling your loved ones, are you paying for all their flights, accommodation and meals?

The villa would accommodate all guests. So they wouldn’t have to pay for that. Flights really depend. If they are cheap easyJet/ryanair flights we would pay but it’s probably affordable if it’s £150 a pop

Oh please do you mind sharing hotel?

France seems a lot cheaper for renting impressive Chateaux/villas. But the only problem I see with France is not having airports close by.

@BusyTraybake it won’t let me pm atm

But for cheap flights I suggest looking at northern Italy also. You can fly Ryanair to Trieste or Venice sometimes, and they both have daily flights even if other airlines.

Most places in Austria/ north Italy/ Slovenia you will get better prices mid Sept-mid October. It’s often still nice weather, but summer season over and winter not started

For food I think you'd need to budget £100pp per day minimum if you're eating out (or are you planning to cook?), so that's blown the 10k before you think about flights, events, a ceremony, an outfit, hair and makeup, a photographer?

You're unlikely to be able to get legally married in France if you're UK citizens, so you'd also need to do a civil ceremony in the UK.

Do your parents and siblings necessarily want to spend a week abroad in the same villa? That's a chunk of leave from work, apart from anything.

You can hire wedding planners abroad. It might be worth contacting someone.

MockOranges · 06/03/2025 15:08

You mean the £10k you are paying for the villa rental plus another £10k for feeding, transporting and amusing your guests?

minnienono · 06/03/2025 15:21

Are you feeding them for the week or just the day?

Yes you can definitely organise a small wedding for a reasonable budget in Europe but £20k is a huge budget and you could easily organise one here in the uk too (mine came to £6k all in last year)

You need to check the laws of whichever country you choose and make sure non residents can get married there.

Ellmau · 28/09/2025 17:20

I think in Italy you would need to do the legal ceremony part at the town hall, but it is doable for non residents, unlike France.

loveislikeabutterfly · 28/09/2025 20:52

As the last few posters have mentioned, it’s very doable to legally marry in Italy if you’re UK nationals, but France is tricky for a legal ceremony. Sounds a nice way to get your loved ones together though.
