To think that some people’s actions are so vile, it feels like they’re not even human?

There are certain individuals whose behaviour just seems so cruel, selfish, or malicious that it’s hard to believe they’re actually capable of empathy or decency. Whether it’s taking advantage of others, hurting people for no reason, or just being utterly toxic - sometimes I wonder if there are people out there who are just beyond help.

Am I being too harsh? Or are there truly some people who just lack basic humanity?

At its worst, I stopped thinking of my Ex as human. I started to think of him as 'It'. As in, 'Oh God, its home.' He didn't behave like normal adults do. There were reasons for that, but that didn't make living with him any less traumatic.

Of course you're not being too harsh. The people who hacked their neighbours up in the Rwandan genocide are normal people.

I've heard people who would consider themselves perfectly civilised, even decent, justifying genocide.

There's a lot of darkness in human nature.

Stop commandeering this thread to dehumanise people whose politics you disagree with. Doing that actually makes you one of the bad guys, not the one of the good guys.

Agree ,anyone who tortures and murders other human beings,paedophiles , child murderers etc . These creatures shouldn’t be allowed to exist.

We need a good news channel. A place to show good deeds being done around the world.

It's really dangerous to say bad humans are not even human, I think. Calling paedophiles, serial killers, dictators etc 'monsters' others them so we can argue we're alright. Whitewashing humanity won't help us fix it though and its the height of arrogance. It goes like this:

'Humans are good.'
'Those people are not good.'
'Therefore those people are not human.'

But that's logically nonsense, because the basic premise is not true - what defines us as human is not our goodness but our DNA. If they have human DNA they are human. But if that's true, your argument has to go like this:

'Humans are those with human DNA.
Some people with human DNA are bad.
Therefore some humans are bad.'

And people don't want to accept that. Some humans are bad. They're human, like you, but they're bad.

I have sympathy for thoswho feel depressed enough to take their own lives, but those who take others with them not so much. There are exceptions such as poor Andrea Yates, of course.

Yes OP, there are people who are beyond redemption. I read an article by an eminent psychologist recently which said that serial killers, paedophiles, rapists and people who torture animals (amongst other examples) can never, ever be rehabilitated. I used to think when I was younger that everyone could be "saved", or at least deserved the chance. I do not believe that anymore.

Yes, was watching a doco about Peter Tobin the other day. What a truly evil man.

Also agree on Andreas Lubnitz and any family annihilator types as well as usual suspects like Hitler, Kim Jong Il, etc
