AIBU to expect more from the Police - RTC related

Earlier this week I was driving home with my DC and DM. I was stationary on a main road, waiting to turn right into a side road. As I turned right into the side road, a car coming out of the side road and also turning right into the main road went straight into the side of my drivers side passenger door and bumper. It was a terrific bang. I put my hazards on and pulled over only to watch incredulous as the driver drove off towards a supermarket up the road. I found a witness who followed me to the supermarket and I identified the car, now parked up (in a disabled bay with blue badge on display) with clear damage to the drivers side bumper and side panel where the car struck mine. I reported the RTC to the police as I waited for the driver to come out of the shop. Police were not able to attend so after making the report I rang off and waited.
The older female driver exited the shop with a trolley full of food. I asked her if she had heard a loud bang as she was driving, she said no. I asked her if she had noticed a loud bang when she crashed into the side of my car as she exited the side road, she said no and that she came to the supermarket from another direction. When I then pointed out the damage on her car she got really angry and said that I had crashed into her! Absolutely bonkers. She then started to swear at me and become irate so I told her the Police would be dealing with it and I left the car park in my vehicle.

Insurance and Police are all up to speed. I cannot believe this driver had an RTC and then went to bloody Aldi to do their shopping - but - unbelievably - the Police are not going forward with anything to do with colliding with my car and driving off. Not a thing. They have instead decided to charge her with a public order offence because she swore at me in the supermarket car park. I am absolutely flabbergasted. I’ve heard and been called worse! The real concern here is that this woman is driving around colliding with people, not giving a damn, driving off and then doing her weekly shop. I am speaking with the Police today and my MP if needs be - though I don’t know what that will do, maybe it’s best to speak with someone else?!

AIBU to expect the police to charge this woman with failure to stop after an RTC?! They have said it is not in my interest to do so but surely it is - mine and every other road user.

I would assume they say there isn't enough evidence to charge with a failure to stop.

I’ve been reporting a neighbour for driving (dangerously) without a license for the last 6 months, they couldn’t care less.

So no, I’m not surprised and wouldn’t expect more at all unfortunately.

Could you appeal for witnesses or dashcam on Facebook? Do you have a crime ref no?

I was flabbergasted when me and DC were almost run over by someone driving their car around the footpaths in the park - she was scared and confused and should not have been behind the wheel. The police did come although she'd found a road by then which I last saw her driving on the wrong side of. I couldn't report her to the DVLA as I only had her number plate and no name. I think I could do Crimestoppers, and the council for the damage she'd done in the park to bins and bollards, but again just with her number plate. No way it was her first rodeo.
