UEFA CUP Glasgow Rangers

To be kind of annoyed that DP is using planes, trains and automobiles to get to Manchester for the UEFA cup final when he hasn't even got a ticket and will have to watch it on a big screen?? Can you imagine if we all decided to bugger off for two days midweek? I know it's a one-off, once in a lifetime blah blah blah event but can he not just watch it on a big screen nearer home????????
I'm such a nagging wife!

I guess your DH has not had a good day at Picadilly gardens with the chaos there

More:

Police clashed with Rangers supporters in Manchester city centre after thousands of fans were left angry when a big screen showing the Uefa Cup final failed to work.

Officers in riot gear charged fans in the Piccadilly Garden fan zone after being pelted with bottles and cans.

Riot officers hit several of the fans with their batons, and then backed off.

Police charged fans twice more, pushing them back. After one clash a fan laid on the floor and appeared to be injured.

Fans taunted police by filming them with their mobile phones, while police fended them off, hitting them with their shields and batons.

Just saw it on ITN news. My DH has been in Albert Square so hopefully well out the way of the trouble. HE phoned me (blimey!) a couple of times during the match to give me a running commentary (even though I was watching it) and all seemed to be well so fingers crossed.
Sky news seem to be playing it down as isolated incidents so here's hoping all's well. (crosses fingers).

why do a minority of men have to behave like pricks when it comes to football??

Upwind · 14/05/2008 23:17

Glad he was away from it all and got to see the match. Some of DHs friends are there too.

I think it was just frustration about the screen not working that set people off, after they had traveled so far.

Upwind · 14/05/2008 23:17

Not that that is any excuse!

MintChocAddict · 14/05/2008 23:27

Unfortunately as with any big team, there'll always be a minority of f*ckwits who are unable to just have a good day out. EEJITS! . Not leaving a good impression of Glasgow, as it's the nasty stuff generated by the few that sticks in folks minds and not the good natured behaviour of the many!

I live quite close to the Rangers ground in Glasgow, and used to live right round the corner when I was a student - within shouting distance.
Generally they were nice enough - happy Glasgow drunks, but if they lost we would often have broken glass all over the street in the morning.

Suppose that is why the flat was soooooo cheap!

Glasgow will be quiet today! Also quiet yesterday - so little traffic that we cut 10 mins of our journey into town.

fin54 · 15/05/2008 07:24

Well done Ranger's for getting into the UEFA CUP even though they lost it was a great achievement for them

theBOD · 15/05/2008 12:57

possibly the worst team to ever reach a european cup final. the only thing more depressing than their onfield performances was once again the actions of their fans.
how long until uefa take action.

Weegiemum - you can't live that far from me! On a match day, we can hear when the Huns Rnager score! We're in douce Pollokshields - but far enough away not to be affected by either parked cars or by fans walking past. I did pass the fans left in Glasgow last night as I cycled home near Paisley Road West as they went to the pub/to Ibrox.

Weegiemum · 15/05/2008 20:52

I live in Crossmyloof. Used to live in Cessnock, right above the underground. I'm a namechanger - you might be able to work it out ....

prettybird · 15/05/2008 22:22

I cycle past Cessnock underground every day
