Anyone else fed up with the job market right now?

And do employers not actually read people's CVs / applications anymore?

I was made redundant last month and I'm currently looking for a new job. I know the market is terrible at the moment, but I'm based in North Wales and it's always been bad here. There's plenty of care and hospitality jobs but that's it basically. I've always had to travel further afield to get work, luckily my last position was remote.

Although we have close links to Chester, Liverpool and Manchester it's still too far to travel every day so I'm looking for hybrid / remote positions only.

It clearly states on my CV (and at the top of the page) where I'm based. I also include a cover letter explaining that I'm happy to travel but due to my location I'm looking for a hybrid role (I only apply to these roles anyway) but employers aren't always transparent about the working arrangements in their adverts so I mention it just in case.

The amount of calls I've received recently from companies where it's been obvious that they haven't even read my CV or looked at my address. And when I've highlighted it to them, it's become an issue. I also had an interview today and spent 30 minutes discussing the role and answering all their questions only for the hiring manager to say at the end "oh, you live in North Wales?". Clearly didn't have a clue even though she had my CV right in front of her! The role was hybrid but 4 days in the office so I decided to withdraw (I wouldn't class that as hybrid personally but that's another argument)

Am I just wasting my time and employers time? I appreciate that they have dozens of applications to sift through, but surely a candidates location is the first thing that should be checked. Certainly before shortlisting anyway?! And why can't companies be more transparent in their adverts rather than just putting "hybrid". Had I known the role was only 1 day at home I wouldn't have applied in the first place.

I would completely understand if I was applying for office based roles and this was happening, but that's not the case here.

Anyone else in the same boat or just struggling with the job market in general and fancy a moan?

Also, I have considered contacting employers before applying to ask if my location poses any concerns, but there isn't always contact details available (or sometimes there is but for a different department and the email doesn't passed on to the relevant person)
