I’ve tried unsuccessfully to lose weight this year. I think getting through the first day’s the hard bit!

I’m normally quite enthused on the first day. It goes downhill after that 🤣

Don't go on a diet though. Start changing your eating habits. Eat more of the good stuff to try to stay full. Reduce the sugary stuff. You can still lose weight and will have a better chance of keeping it off.

If you can, start moving more too.

The hardest day of the diet is all the days after the end of the diet. People lose weight all the time, it's maintaining the weight afterwards. That's where most diets fail

For me the hardest day is day 5.
Im over the buzz of initial motivation and usually the weekend is coming up as I seem to always start on a Monday lol.

The only diet I've ever stuck to and that has consistently worked is keto paired with a 4 hour eating window

I am losing nearly a kg a week and I don't get hungry at all now until about an hour before I am due to have my dinner. (I have dinner and then supper and then don't eat again until 6pm).

Ah !! Interesting !!

Actually I think the hardest part is when you’ve weighed after let’s say a week on the diet, had a successful weight loss, been out to your fav cafe and had a treat, and then you have to start your admin stuff!

I think most people are more committed at the start, diets that are more of a program are usually purposefully stricter at the start.

I'm with you though OP. On day 1 it's so easy to decide to start tomorrow instead.

Dr Raj Chatterjee has quite a few good podcasts on dieting and mindset. If you constantly fail to stick to diets the suggestion is to balance your biome and hormones instead by avoiding upf, eating more protein and fibre and getting enough sleep. That's a good starting place.

What ive found thats helped me massively ( 9 months into my fitness and weightloss journey) is starting slowly.

So i joined a small group PT for weight/strength training then i started counting calories, once i had my head around that i then started making sure i was focusing on protein alongside my calories, there were days i went over my calories and weeks i didnt lose weight but thats ok!! this was a lifestyle change for me.

After about 6 months of that i then added in a 1 hour conditioning class which is like a non stop cardio class.

Then about 8 months in i joined the running club, I can only run 3k just now without stopping but im building it up.

Fr me it was all about enjoying the process and not puttig too much pressure on myself.

if you told me a year ago id be doing all this i would have laughed in your face.

What others said. When you start you have enthusiasm and water weight on your side. A month on however...

I am on a diet (plain old calorie control) and the thing that keeps me going is jumping on the scale first thing and seeing a gradual downward trend. And to some extent magicking up tasty low cal recipes. But it's tedious.

I have lost 6.5kg over two months and am delighted with myself. Same again to go.
