Name changed due to possibility of employer being on mn.

I worked part time (<16hours), I've noticed oddities in pension contributions but my only question is: due to the small amount of hours weekly, would NI still be taken?

Yes: not unreasonable assumption
No: yabu

It’s not really about hours worked it’s more about salary. If you earned more than. £242 a week or monthly equivalent you will get hit with ni.

WoahThreeAces · 04/03/2025 17:28

It depends how much you earn

spannasaurus · 04/03/2025 17:29

If you earn over £242 per week you will pay NI

Pastelhp · 04/03/2025 17:29

It doesn’t depend on the hours you work but rather the amount you earn. From memory I think it’s around £242 per week

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 04/03/2025 17:30

No one can know unless you say how much you were paid

Are you paid using a computerised payroll?

ExIssues · 04/03/2025 17:31

Check your payslip
Also you can check online whether you have deficits in your contributions

Namechanger2025 · 04/03/2025 17:32

Thank you everyone.

From memory, the most I earned was 839 once but other months could be as low as 450.

Per month or per week.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 04/03/2025 17:38

You need to check your actual payslips, vague numbers are of no use

There's nothing on there. Having had problems with employer already, I wanted to check if I'm supposed to be having NI contributions taken out or not.

Per month or per week.

Sorry I see you’ve said per month. You wouldn’t pay NI until over £1000 per month but employer NI kicks in at a lower rate around £750.

Lovelysummerdays · 04/03/2025 17:45

Also if your payslips are lacking download the Hmrc app. It’ll give you your gross salary, tax and ni payments for this financial year and for up to five years.

I did follow the link which told me I had a gap worth £15 but then I couldn't pay online.

Any ideas why this might he the case?

OP posts:
spannasaurus · 06/03/2025 19:32

Was the year with the £15 gap more than six years ago?

Namechanger2025 · 08/03/2025 19:25

@spannasaurus that's a good question. I don't think so, I can't remember without checking, sorry.
