I lease a car and have just been approved for higher rate living and mobility pip
I can use their mobility scheme however I do not know if this is actually good value
Some cars you have to do a down payment ?

It depends entirely on the car you want. Something small/basic.. it takes all (or nearly all) of your mobility allowance. Something posher/bigger/adapted...some have huge up front payments.
We had a motability car for our son for a couple of years, but in the end it didn't made sense for us..we were better off with a second hand car that we could use for any reason. It depends on what you need and how important owning a car is to you (I prefer to own it and not worry about wear and tear/scrapes!)
Also depending on the car and if you need any adaptations there can be a long wait... there are so many variables.
Another factor is how long your award is for.. if it's 'ongoing' (ie 10 years as they review) it may be worth it.. if it's for 3 , then you risk being car-less at the end of that period if you aren't awarded again.
Don't forget that even if you don't get a motibility car you can tax your car for free whatever it is...you just have to change the tax class.

My husband and I are waiting for our motability car, it'll be the entire £300 mobility element every month but what we like about it is the tax, insurance and tyres and servicing are included in the price, also there are many 0 deposit options available

For young drivers it makes a lot of sense.

I have a motability car. Something to consider is that you do not accumulate no claims re insurance for the time that you have one. You are given a certificate at the end of the lease if you leave but not all insurers will accept this. So if you only have a fairly short award and could potentially lose the car on renewal I would be wary of this as if you then have to buy your own car again the insurance could be very expensive as you’re effectively having to start from scratch again. For me it’s a good deal as I have an ongoing / indefinite award. It means I don’t have to worry about finding lots of money for sudden repairs, I have a reliable easy to drive car which helps me get to all my medical appointments.

How much do you pay for your current lease, tax, insurance, MOT maintenance and breakdown? Is it more of less than £75 a week?

There are a lot of cars that don't need a down payment, look at the Motability site for details.

From a financial point of view it would probably be better to use the money you would use for a lease paying off credit for a car.

It's worth it for me as I wouldn't be able to lease a car otherwise. I paid £3k upfront, my weekly mobility payment and now all I need to do is put fuel in it.

Sorry for the delay everyone

I didn't realise you had replied

At the moment I have a Tesla model y and it's £535 a month I paid 3 months up front
None of the cars on the website are the same sort of class as mine. I think it is better to keep ours, but I agree with the comments on insurance and tax
The Tesla is leased through the business I own with my husband but I'm actually bed wridden atm
So not driving but my husband uses the car as we have three children

The Tesla has high insurance premiums. It's a problem for all Tesla owners regardless of no claims I have ten years no claims and no points still 2500 a year to insure but I will take that on the chin as a nicer car costs much more then £700 a month so it's the best value and I was meticulous when I chose the car as I am very into them but I also always get a great deal

I think keeping the money is probably the best decision for now as I would have to pay a large upfront fee which I avoid using the leases I get, and also that the cars are slightly small for 3 children without a sort of 5k payment

I love the idea that everything is organised though
What a life line
