I'm not going to share a photo because I want a little dignity!

I'm going through immunotherapy for stage 4 melanoma.

Anyway! I've woken up with a mild temperature and sore throat. I also thought the thrush I treated last week was back and more sore than itchy, so I put some canasten on my vulva and noticed there is a really really sore lump on the entrance of my vagina. It's really sore and it's hard to walk because it hurts so much.

Is this a bartholins cyst? Can my GP deal with it or do I need to go to hospital? I ask because the nearest hospital to me is where I work in theatres so if I need an op to drain it I will not be going there! My colleagues do not need to see that!

I already have a complex about my colleagues as they did the operation to remove my cancer and I was naked on the table in front of my colleagues and I started my period on the operating table so I woke up wearing netty knickers and a giant maternity pad. So aibu is if my GP says no you need to go to hospital can I say 'not that one?'

Hello!
Sorry to hear you're going through this. I'm not sure about your first question but when my mum used to visit me from North Wales to England she was able to use our walk in centre/GP to get emergency meds and other related advice for her ongoing condition. They just register you as a temporary patient.
I was born and raised in North Wales, have a lovely time.

Right to choose means you can be referred to whichever hospital you choose, I don't know whether that includes crossborder though.
It could be an ingrown hair, I've had them cause exactly what you've described!

I’ve unfortunately had the displeasure of bartholyn cysts and every time they’ve needed to be drained I was put under (first admitted to a&e). What you describe sounds like it.

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/03/2025 05:08

Yep sounds like a Bartholins gland cyst - ouch. Hot cloth until it bursts or see a GP.

Higher up nearer to your clit is the Skenes gland (one each side same as the Bartholins) and that can get impacted/cysty and form a hard white lump which can be very sore too... in case its that.

I had one many years ago but only had antibiotics from GP and it went away very quickly - also told to bath in Epsom salts too twice a day which seemed to help loads

Maybe smallish ones don't need draining? However as you are receiving cancer treatment and have a fever I would definitely get medical advice from GP at least - don't want it to progress to something like sepsis.... sure if following this it doesn't improve A&E near your mum can help. Hope you feel better soon
