Has anyone noticed more ladybirds (ladybugs) in their house than normal?

I've had several in my place over the past few weeks. Mostly I put them outside by some flowers but this one was incredibly stubborn and would not get off my kitchen roll holder. I've now smeared this with some organic honey to keep her happy.
I like them but admittedly don't know very much about them.
Is it just me? I'm in Scotland.

Beware - the buggers can bite (and it hurts!)

No way!! I'll bear that in mind Grin
I got lucky then, as I got up quite close and personal with my honey! Shock

They may have been hibernating somewhere, probably in a window frame, and are just waking up.

LaineyCee · 04/03/2025 00:14

Nope. Haven’t seen a one.

Harlequin ladybird bites are nasty. I have noticed fewer ladybirds in recent years (chemicals, loss of habitat etc) but perhaps with rewilding gardens and meadows coming into fashion we may see many ladybirds again. As a child in the 80s and 90s I remember loads. I always loved seeing them.

@JMSA I am glad to see you giving your little spotted visitor some honey! I sometimes use sugar water or honey to revive sickly bumblebees.

I've had a few living with me for a few months. They can live for two years! Lord knows what they eat.

They will just be waking up

Not this year but last summer we had an absolute swarm of them all over the front of the house 2 days in a row. Never seen anything like it. Over 20 ladybirds crawling all over the windows. I do love a ladybird though, I try and be kind to them now after a childhood of keeping them as pets in a matchbox with some grass and leaves in it.

You need to tell her the rhyme or she won't go.

They've probably laid a bunch of eggs somewhere in your house. Hopefully somewhere that the yellow stain they leave doesn't matter.
