And what the significance is of tuna in oil, brine or spring water is? Are you meant to use them for different things, is there any that's better than another..or is it just personal preference?

It's all the same. Tinned tuna is basic. If you want "superior" tuna, buy a steak from the fishmonger. That's another level.

Oritz or similar premium tunas aren't basic. They're just a different product from fresh tuna.

I like Oritz bonito tuna in olive oil. Mix with cream cheese, chopped capers, chopped spring onions, lemon juice, black pepper.

Toasted sourdough.

Delicious.

I use tuna in spring water because I drain off the water and give it to the cat as a special treat, which I wouldn't do with brine or oil.

Same!

Is it not ?

Seed oils are linked to inflammation (not extra virgin). Not a big problem if you’re eating mostly unprocessed foods but as they’re in basically everything processed I swap them out where possible.

Does it come in a tin? If so, it's basic. If it's more expensive it's cause it's got a fancy name or label. Bit like tinned peas or tomatoes. Handy basics to have cause they don't go off but it's never gonna be luxury

Yes, it comes in a tin. It's certainly not basic. It's an entirely different product from fresh tuna, it's used for different things.

You get plenty of high quality products in tins. Caviar? Foie gras? Confit du canard?

You need to examine your tinned produce prejudice!

Basic versions yes. Decent versions come chilled!
