Who is the richest person in your family and why?

Just being nosy! Who is the richest person in your family and how did they get there? Did they inherit wealth, build a business, work their way up in a high-paying career, or something else?

Do they live noticeably different from the rest of the family, or are they quite low-key about it?

No judgement - just curious about the different paths to financial success!

Stepdad’s Niece. Member of a very successful girl band but also has other business interests.
She’s done very well for herself financially.

My husband's brother and his wife – circa £1m annual income. He went to private school and a Russell Group uni, comes from wealth but wasn't gifted money as an adult. He is an a partner at a huge firm. She went to state school and a Russel Group uni. She is a CFO.

On my side, my uncle. Worked his way up to a high flying career, has no dependants and now retired with good pension.
On DH side it will soon be BIL. Once PILs estates are settled he will have enough in the bank that he could live off the interest as he has no mortgage or dependants (there's a theme here...)

Probably both my BIL’s who are senior partners in US law firms. Neither had any family help but must both be on at least £1m a year.

My dad came from absolutely nothing and is worth about £6m. They’ve a nice house and nice holidays and they consider themselves comfortable but not wealthy enough to help their children, not one of us has seen a penny from them since the day we left uni

I consider myself extremely fortunate. I have a paid off £1m house and the sam again in investments and a couple of DB pensions. I consider myself incredibly fortunate.
